I live near a large green that has many dogs walking around it. There are two jack russell dogs (that live together) that are always attacking other dogs. When they attacked my dog Scooby and a friend's that I was walking I investigated and to my horror found out that this was attack number 5 in the last year. I have since heard that they have attacked another dog that lives along my road and then this morning (as if I didn't need the stress) they attacked a 6 month old golden retriever that I dog mind during the day. The dog warden has been very helpful in the past but has also explained that dog on dog attack does not constitute a dangerous dog. Only when the dogs attack a person will the authorities act on it. I don't necessarily want the dogs to be put down but I would like them to be muzzled, however the owners did not take any notice when the dog warden suggested it. Does anyone know of any more that can be done to prevent this from happening? I worry it could be a child next.

Can't you make a complaint to the police? I thought the law stated that dogs had to be under control in public places so surely they should react?
Sarah :)
Hi Trisha
Sorry to hear about the attacks. When they attack are they with anyone (owners) or are they just roaming. If they are just roaming then call the local dog warden and he should pick them up, especially if they don't have collars on etc.
This happened to me once when a dog kept attacking dogs where I live and I called the police who contacted the dog warden and he came out to pick it up but it had gone home!!!
Call the police first thing tomorrow and explain, they should help
Thanks

Yes I would call the police see what they can do.. we once made a complaint to the local dog warden regarding a dog that use to roam around free in the area with it's owner children.. they let it foul anywhere and the dog warden said there was NOTHING that could be done as it was with children under 16 and they are not responsible for cleaning up after a dog... SO MUCH FOR LAW..

Hi,
I own 2 JRT's. No I am not going to condone these dogs. JRT's are little devils unless properly trained, I hope mine are well trained, they seem well behaved although they are only 18mths old and I know this can change.
You should maybe get a few of your neighbours together and confront the owners, don't be aggressive, just offer advice.
The dogs may be 'dog aggressive' but if the dog they are attacking is on the other end of a leash that a child is holding, who's to say that the child may not be hurt. The dogs may not mean to hurt the child but accidents happen.
The dogs should not be allowed off their own property without suitable supervision.
I once witnessed a 'pitbull' attack on a Yorkie, it was horrendous. The Yorkie was being walked by a 12yr old. If a member of the public had not held the child back anything could have happened.
I'm not saying JRT's are on the same level as a 'pitbull' but I knew this 'pitbull' and he was fantastic with kids.
He went crazy on the Yorkie and eventually killed it, would he have realised if a child had intervened??
A dog is a dog after all. No matter what the breed, just the potential.

P.S. I did not own the 'pitbull' and he had been rescued from a fighting environment and it was an accidental escape. (With horrific consequences).

Just because dogs fight/attack etc other dogs does NOT mean that they are necessarily a problem to people.

As they appear to be attacking in a group, it sounds like a territory issue..
