As some of you know, I have recently got another Staff puppy, Rio.
When I first got her she slept in a larger cage, big enough for bed and toilet area. She pooped the first night, but after that she just weed. After about a week or so I put her in a smaller cage, just big enough for her bed hoping that might help her to be dry all night. The first night she was dry :) the next night she weed, :(  so I thought I was probably just lucky the first night, but I thought I'd persevere. After that for the next few days she has been completely clean, thought we'd cracked it :D  But the night before last she had pooped, so of course it was all over her, her cage and bedding. Then again this morning, all over everything again.  So my question is, do you think I should ignore it and persevere, or go back to the bigger cage, so she has toilet space, or would that be just encouraging her that it's ok to do it.
Any suggestions.  By the way she is 14 weeks.
Michelle.

I think if she was my baby, I'd keep to the large cage. At 14 weeks she's still very young & it's a lot to expect her to be clean every night - although I know a lot of pups are at her age.

You don't want her to think it's acceptable to go to the toilet in her cage, but i also think she should have an area where she can relieve herself if she needs to. You may find that when she needs to go in the night & is in her smaller cage, she may feel dirty & upset by soiling her bed.
I'd give her the bigger cage, so she's got the chance to go if she needs to.

I'm sure before long, she'll start to be clean overnight, every night at which point you could introduce her to the small cage again.  :)

My pup had a big cage, large enough for a bed and toilet area and she still messed nearly every night for the first few months. Sometimes it was still on her bed rather than the paper and she laid in it, so we had to bath her every morning as soon as she got up. However, i have to say that we didn't get up during the night to let her out so we did expect some problems. We also took her to the vets to check everything was ok as she was going a lot and it wasn't very formed, (ugh, sorry to be discusting) but everything came back normal. So we just had to contimue makingsure that we fed her fairly early in the evening (about 6pm) so that she had enough time to empty her self before bed at 10 -10.30pm. She is now clean all night at 8 months. Its not very pleasant but it seems to be one of those things some pups just do.

Thanks for the reply's.
I'll revert back to the large cage untill there is a sign of improvement.
Thanks.

Michelle.
