Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Lab hyper after worming tablets
- By minstrel [gb] Date 06.10.03 11:43 UTC
now she is very lethargic and not eating?

Minstrel had some worming tablets from the vets (she is 3 months old) and for the next 24 hours or so she was like the devil possessed!!, now she has not eaten properly this morning, has had loose motions and is pretty much lookign sorry for herself.

Any sugestions? Is it the tablets?

I am going to call the vets if she doesnt perk up soon?

I am very Concerned....

Many thanks in advance

Hi,
I don't really know if they can make a dog react like that, but if they have I'd report it to the vet anyway, even if she does perk up.

Hope you get her sorted and that she's feeling better soon.

It may well be the tablets. If she still is not eating tonight and still has the runs tomorrow the get her on rice and chicken/tuna for a day or so and that should get her back to normal. Make sure she has fresh water at all times so she does not get dehydrated.

I think the hyper activity may well just be normal puppy activity ! A twelev week old Lab has mad moments and then periods of sleep ! Perfectly normal !

If you are at all still worried then get her to the vets.

thanks,

anyway gave her some of the organic fresh food which she always loves and she ate it like her good old self... So fingers crossed it was the tablets.

But regarding her amd moment on saturday, this was not a mad moment... it was as though I had another totaly different dog!!

Thanks again for your advice its always reassuring to get help ont his site.

thanka again

Hi Minstrel I posted on this subject last week My 13 week old lab was hyper after getting the worm tablet, and i was really worried. She was a totally different dog, never slept the whole day, kept jumping up at me,was just totally hyper and agitated. The next day she had diarrhoea, but she is prone to that anyway. She had calmed down the next morning and was back to her usual play, sleep etc. thank goodness.Think I will ask for another brand the next time, although the Drontal is supposed to be good. She had no side effects when the vets gave her the liquid version, but the tablet definitely didn't agree with her.Hope that helps

Thats exactly what she was like.

Biting constantly, even after being told off she would start again and thats not like her...

Keep her under observation, when would she be due another worming?

thanks all

I am not sure if it goes to every 3 months now. The vet didnt tell me to come back in the next few weeks,so i take it it's a bit longer this time. Not looking forward to another day like that, especially as she will be 6 months old then. Maybe Labs are sensitive to this. My previous GSD's were fine, although one was very sick after the worming. How's your pup,s tummy? Mine has been dodgy since I got her. She has had 2 lots of antibiotic, but still loose. I have just ordered Tree barks powder from Dorwest,so hopefully that will help her . What colour is yours? Mine is a yellow and her name is Star. Hope Minstrel is back to normal now.

I think its 3 months as well, she has calmed down a lot now, still has a dicky tummy though so I am watching her, reduced her food a bit and she is on the dry food again.

She is a chocolate lab and is 14 weeks on friday, generally she is very good and loves her morning walks in the fields....

she is huge aswell, massive paws and was 14.5Kilos at 13 weeks...

Am going to give her some scrammbled eggs tonight as this usually helps with loose motions I hear...

Thanks again Jean

Gosh she is big isn't she? Mine is very small, they all were. She will be 14 weeks on Sunday, but last week she only weighed 5.5.kg She has had a lot of digestion problems and has vaginitis as well. She keeps getting diarrhoea and I have to keep putting her on to bland food instead of the Burns. She has had 2 lots of antibiotics, but none of them cleared up the diarrhoea,or the vaginitisHave started giving her Tree Bark powder which is supposed to be good for intestinal problems,so fingers crossed it works. She is very bright and playful though, and is really good at the house training, and also on her walks.Still a bit bitey, but is getting the message gradually. She hasn't had a very good start in life with all her problems, but hopefully things will settle down, and she will catch up.Lovely dogs aren't they? So quick to learn, and she looks absolutely gorgeous, just like the Andrex puppies.Good luck with Minstrel. maybe we can e-mail each other occasionally to see how they are progressing
