Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / bitch puppies humping
- By Chris D [gb] Date 08.09.03 18:24 UTC
We have 2 bitch puppies from the same litter aged 17 weeks. Every day they each try to hump the other several times. Never having had 2 puppies before we don't know whether or not this is normal behaviour. Does anyone out there have any ideas? Could it be part their trying to determine who is top dog?

Normal behaviour, Chris! They start doing it in the nest at only a few weeks of age, and they may never grow out of it. It seems to be partly hierarchical, and partly fun. As long as neither of them objects, it's not a problem.

Thanks Jeangenie.
It was reassurance that we needed. I'm sure they are having fun, they play fight, sleep together and share everything from chews and bones to branches from our shrubs. They run around the garden both holding onto a branch or toy, they look like siamese twins joined at the mouth! They are wonderful but hard work, can't think what we did before we had them.

Two when they're co-operating with you (and each other!) are wonderful. The same two when they've got the devil in them will drive you despair - and probably drink as well, to stop you slaughtering the little monsters!
:D
