Having begun to make headway with toilet training with the terrible two 11 week old bichons we are now rapidly back pedalling. They were dutifully performing all of last week and then yesterday they started just going whereever they were. (both poohs and wees)
They are crated when I can't supervise them but I am very anxious about all the comments about bichons needing loads of company and am worried that they might spend too long in their crate because I am trying to stop accidents. Dealing with two at once requires a superhuman to watch them all the time without being on their backs continually.

All dogs need company, particularly at the puppy stage while they are learning right from wrong so it would really depend how long you were leaving them in the crate. Too much time in a crate at this age may cause other socialisation problems and not necessarily help the potty training.
You were also probably lucky last week if they were both clean as they are still very, very young and accidents are to be expected. It is also important to throughly clean wherever they make a mess so that there is no residual smell as they will then identify that spot as an acceptable toilet area. Training takes time and patience and regular reinforcement.
