My family need help with Lola!! She's 4 months now and adorable. She is very dainty and pretty and quite girlie for a Dobe but!!!! She has the most disgusting wind problem :o
We feed her on Technical puppy with about a spoonful of Chum pouches for flavour :D
Last night at training, she was a star. My husband hand been doing heel work with her which has really paid off. My daughter has taught her to stay. Everyone was commenting on how good she was when suddenly she let out a loud and very unladylike fart :o. The smell was disgusting and it managed to permeate the room!
Problem 2 is her fear of our cats. She's clean all day and has learned how to bomb in and out of the dog flap with no probs. However, first thing in the morning, before I get up, she tries to go out. Unfortunately thois coincides with the cats waiting for breakfast. They either come in or wait outside the dog flap. She won't go out so she poos on the carpet :(
Any ideas????

Hi Annie,
Perhaps it's a dobe thing :) Odin once left the room when he'd farted as I think he offended even himself (I was choking on the sofa at the time). But seriously, Odin had a terrible wind problem til we took him off dairy products a couple of weeks back (now diet mix of J Wellbeloved plus meat or sardines and Butchers with different meals). He's now much less smelly.
Sorry not experienced enough to suggest how to introduce pups to cats successfully (we don't have any). When he does see the odd cat he just stares in amazement at them and tries to get closer.
Sounds like your training is going really well!

id change her food, -try eukanuba or nutro,
Dizzy I thought Eukanuba was one of the foods that used 'companion animals' cats, dogs horses etc, or am I wrong, yet again....wouldn't be unusual ;)

A great thing for windy dogs is probiotic yoghurt, it is better to feed them this seperate from their dinner, I just let my guys lick if off the big spoon, they love it and it does seem to help with gas. You don't need to buy the expensive yakult things, most supermarkets do an own brand tub of live natural yoghurt, mine are quite partial to the flavoured stuff. Charcoal is great, you can always pick all the black biscuits out of the pick&mix at the pet shop, though people give you strange looks.

Hi Annie,
Buster was like that for a couple of months, you could have cut it with a knife!! We raised his feeding bowl. No need to buy expensive equipment, just cut the bottom off a bucket or large plantpot and place bowl inside. Bingo!! It worked a treat!! Still have the occasional let-off, but not nearly as bad!!

Hi all,
Thanks for all your suggestions, I'll try them all. I've heard of the raised feeding bowls. In fact it's advised for Dobes as they are prone to bloat. I thought she was young enough to wait a while but I'll get hubby on to the task today ;)
Phewwww when I come downstairs in the morning, she sounds like a machine gun and the air is cloudy :D :D

Recent research has actually suggested that raised feeding bowls are not a good idea to protect against bloat. Search purdue bloat study on net.

Sounds familiar . We found lowered the protein intake in the food we gave ours to 22% and also we've been feeding fresh veg and fruit as treats - instead of commercial treats. The wind problem subsided rapidly - Thank the Lord! He loves brocolli florets or chopped pears mixed in with his daily food too. Carrots are a great treat - he loves them, and they can be cut up and put in Kongs .

Hi Annie
I'm afraid you're doomed - the dober-fart has been known to slay a person at 10 paces and is particularly dangerous to the old or infirm. Good luck! :D
