Topic Dog Boards / General / Cleaning dogs after run over fields

Anyone found a products that really works to clean dogs up after run over fields instead of bathing legs and underbelly every day.

Nope - nothing but water and elbow grease!!  I blast with a hose first as it's so much easier to shift the mud if they're properly wet then a bucket of warm water and very dilute Hibiscrub.  Finally a thorough towel dry and an hours snooze on their bed in our warm utility room

If I only use a bucket of water I just can't seem to get all the mud off and as one of mine suffers with allergies it's important to remove every speck!

Mine hate the hose.

I use a bucket of warm water with a very small squeeze of shampoo (or washing-up liquid!).

Depends on how much mud they have - our road is constantly muddy so every trip out they get muddy, we can't avoid it. I'm not going to wash them every time, so they get towelled off and left in the kitchen to dry, then any dirt just falls off. Then I just have to clean the kitchen :(  If Tara (Aussie) is VERY muddy then her undercarriage gets showered off in the wetroom, but I don't like doing this everyday as the wetroom gets muddy too, so I then have to clean that :) :)

The best purchase I ever made was a Hozelock Portashower (about £20 from Amazon).  You fill it up w/ warm water - pump the handle & it has a shower head for you to spray the dog down.  We even take it away with us when we go on holiday.   At least one of mine would not tolerate cold water . . . You can make the water surprisingly hot (ie; hotter than luke warm).

We discovered quite how hot they like it when we were staying away for a weekend at a dog friendly self-catering place at new year.  We had had a lovely walk and were both sitting in the big bath with a glass of champagne.  When we were joined by one of our dogs.   It was a big enough bath so she sat down & reckoned she felt very at home.  So we let her stay for a while.

Goodness I'm a lazy moo, I wait for it to fall off and ask the OH to vac the floor :-)

Me too Nova, I wipe their feet with a towel and keep them in one room until they're dry and then just hoover/mop that room :-)

I just send mine in the river before leaving lol. But I've seen a dog paw cleaning thing, looks like a mug and you still k a paw in it to clean it can't think of its name.

My two get a full bath in the shower with shampoo after a run in the fields. It takes as long to get them, us and the bathroom clean as the time actually spent put so we only go to the fields once a week when its muddy :-)

Mine are in the fields on a daily basis, and they go swimming (or paddling if the water isn't high enough) and when we come home they go out in to the back garden, which is just as muddy as the fields  so they are always mucky. I now haven't any carpets in the house, all laminate or lino. So much easier to clean. Oh, and the dogs just dry off on towels.

I'm really lucky-my good friend (and neighbour) had a 'doggy shower' put in her garage a few years back, so I use that. It's a godsend! Especially if the dogs are cold aswell as wet and muddy-they can have a nice warm soapy wash :)

It's called Pawplunger:  http://pawplunger.com/

Would the portashower be enough to wash two aussies legs and under belly that get very dirty. Is the pressure coming out as good as an ordinary shower.
- By kayenine [gb] Date 08.02.13 21:40 UTC
I've got a portashower and the pressure isn't that powerful. I use a bucket of hot soapy water to do legs, and then use the portashower to clean the mud off the belly and rinse the suds off the legs.

I put mine in a large bed with warm clean bath towels and the vast majority comes off as they dry. I call that time their afternoon nap and they pile in.

Wow ginjaninja ! You know how to enjoy life ! Good for you.

Regarding Portashower, will get one. My dogs would hate to be hosed down with cold water and I'm finding all this mud very stressful.
