There's a bit of a hoo-hah on a FB group about whether pups born abroad to UK-registered parents can be registered with our KC without being registered in the country of their birth. Does anyone know whether that's possible or not, and hopefully point to the actual rule?

To register with our KC the litter must be born here.

If the dogs are living abroad they need to be registered with the KC of that country, and then the pups registered there to.  If they are brought back to UK they are imported, and registered as such.

For some reason fro show purposes they do allow individual IKC dogs to be registered here, must be a special arrangement between Ireland and UK.

I assume it predates the ATC system which came in since Pet Passports.

Do you know which rule actually states this?

From the KC Registration Rules Online.

Non Acceptance of Registration
The Kennel Club will not accept an application to register a litter when:

6.The dam was not resident at a UK address at the date of whelping.

I don't believe there is a rule regarding pups born abroad to UK registered parents being allowed to be registered here without registration first in their Country of birth. However I seem to remember something about the KC giving individual permission for this at their discretion.

I understand the pups would need to be resident in the UK and have an export pedigree from the KC of the country of their birth before being accepted here.

To be legal the parents would have needed an export pedigree from our KC registered with the one in their new country.

Haven't a clue where to find this info officially, try looking under KC import/export section

WOW all typing at the same time

It's on the reg form.  Also here http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/346

A. Yes, if any of the following apply:
..............................................................
6.The dam was not resident at a UK address at the date of whelping."

Excellent. :-)

The declaration on the registration application form also days : "The litter was born in the United Kingdom at the address listed above (excluding Jersey or Guernsey)" so it seems clear that this particular registration is invalid.

Although this is the strict rule of the KC, it is actually hard to enforce:  If you have a UK address for your KC reg mum, no one will know if the pups were born outside the UK or not.

We bought a pup from a breeder in Ireland who also had an address in the UK.  He used his UK address to register the litter.  His dogs in Ireland were still reg with the UK/at the UK address.  I don't see how this would be any different, whatever the country.  I guess puppy buyers could report the breeder, but when it's saving them the trouble/paperwork of importing to the UK, they're unlikely to.

this is right, I know people who breed abroad and register the pups in UK yet the pups may never actually be here.... KC are not interested to be  honest and perhaps because they're still collecting the £££ registration fees!  Pups are sold proudly 'UK KC registered'.

Not likely puppy buyers will report it because they are saving money.  But if someone else reports it with evidence of this practice those puppies could end up with invalid registration.
