Topic Dog Boards / General / Question on puppy going to America

Hi, have had an enquiry about selling a puppy to someone who is from the UK but now lives in LA. I'm 99.9% sure I'm not selling one to her (long story) but in our conversation she seems to think that she can fly a pup out with her in the cabin. Is this correct as I thought the rules had changed?

I believe it's the case that, depending on size and crate, you can fly a pup out in the cabin.  You cannot fly a pup into the UK, in the cabin, due to the requirements of the Pet Passport scheme.

Some airlines will let you - I sold a puppy to friends in Louisiana 5 years ago (no idea if rules have changed since then) and they flew out to fetch him and took him back in the cabin with them.

Yep as long as the pup fits into a carrier that is the carry on luggage size and less than 10 pounds.  It is up to the Airline if they allow it.

A pup I bred in 2005 went this way on an 8 hour flight, yet we don't seem to have any UK domestic routes that allwo thsi where th journey is much shorter and arguably havign the pup in cabin is likely to imoinge on a fellow traveller much less.

Personally I think the pup is better off in the hold as checked baggage (often only about $150), where the temperature will be more comfortabel for a dog, it will be dark,a dn teh pup will ahve mre room 9in a rigid airline crate.
