We lost my Father in Law Ron on 1st Jan.He was 91 years old & had been in a home for a few years as he was unable to look after himself. He had a bedroom of his own & a lounge for all,all food & drink was consumed in there,So not a great big space . He went into hospital 3 weeks before xmas & the home was informed that this time he would not be coming out. My husband has now been informed that the home require a months more money for his room ,
As the home was paid by his estate ,all his benefits stopped the day that he died,& the price for his care was £ 800 per week which was paid for out of his benefits + topped up from his own money from the sale of his house that is in excess of another £3000. surely as these homes have a waiting list it wouldnt take a month to re-let his bedroom, Is this the norm or do you think that this is a bit expensive.

I think it may be the norm. When my mother in law left her Abbeyfield flat to live with her daughter she had to pay a further one months rent. Further more, when we went to pick up the rest of her things during that month that she was paying for they were already in there fitting a new shower!
