I remember quite a while back we discussed the commercially available DNA tests which cliam to determine the genetic makeup of dogs, giving all the breeds in their makeup.  There had been an article in one of the dog mags about the subject sometime earlier too.  The conclusion seemed to be that most/many of the tests we unreliable, and some threw up very odd results, linking back some unquestionably pure breeds dogs as descendants of obscure breeds, and I think also marked a couple of crosses as pedigrees.  Can anyone remember the article or point in the direction of our discussion?

I do remember the article and discussion but not the finer details of it :-( There is however an advert in this month's Agility Voice for BlackDogDNA.com who offer  testing  and state that they have a unique service so maybe you could do a search on here using their name in the search field and see if it throws up the relevant posts?

the artical i read was in dogs today cant rember which month it was in, they tested a purebreed old english that came back as a cross of a few breeds and tested a first gen cockerXpoodle and that cam back as pooble mixes with some oter breeds but not cocker. The test people said the tests are not ment to purebreeds and that they dont have all the reconised breeds in there data base so if the breeds wernt on there it would go with the closest breeds.
