Has anyone ever used this? I have a girly who I am struggling to get weight off (and then I want to spay her.. eep!!) and I wondered if anyone had ever used this. The reviews are good but I'd like to hear from someone not on their website!!

I really don't see the need for anything like this for a dog, they can't reach the biscuit cupboard themselves :) If mine are too heavy their rations are cut back till they're normal weight again, doesn't matter how little that is - simple :-)

On reduced rations she turns into a scavenger and bin raids, picks up stuff on walks, you name it. If I fed what kept her weight down she would probably only get a meal a week. She has always been a chunky monkey but I am struggling to win at the mo. She was raw fed and should be on 2.5-3.5% of her ideal body weight.. I have been feeding closer to 1.5/2% and getting nowhere. She is the most active she's been and it's just not shifting

Edit to say - I can reduce them down by so much but too far gives the behaviour above and yet is still not enough to start shifting it :(

Have you tried bulking the meals up with frozen sliced green beans, fills them up without adding lots of calories and they are full for longer?

Feeding before walks would stop them looking for food when out and about.

Have you had bloods checked to make sure everything is functioning properly especially the thyroid?

I'm not usually someone who adds veg to their dogs food, but to get bulk I would add veg, stuff with low calories. What sort of meats does she get as part of raw?

I have a very greedy bitch and have the same problem, she puts on weight so easily, so I feed her little but give her apples and carrots between meals and thankfully she's never fat but I do worry about it.
I would put a basket muzzle on her when she walks so she can't pick up anything?

That sounds too high for an overweight dog - it's a maintenance weight allowance really.  If you are very consistent and weigh 1.5 - 2% for every meal then the weight should come off but it can take a bit of time if your dog is very overweight.  Actually it's better to take the weight down slowly and increase exercise

Green veg is great for adding interest and bulk but don't add too much from the cabbage family as it can cause gas and discomfort.  Avoid root veg.  Also try feeding leaner meats and avoid lamb for a while as it is higher in fat.  Finally, you can feed meat frozen, or only partially defrosted, which will slow her down a bit or feed it in a Kong to make it last even longer

It's funny but when I raw fed, I had such a struggle with my dogs.  One, I couldn't keep weight on regardless what I fed her and the other, I could barely feed her a spoonful of meat and she was HUGE!  What I did was, I fed her a lot more boney meals.  This took up her time and made her feel like she was 'eating' something more substancial.  Also, I would give her carrots during the day for a chew treat.  She felt like she was eating but their is no calories in them.  Also, they take the edge off the hunger.  Brilliant.  She ate so many I was sure she'd turn orange!!lol  Lucky she's allready ginger!!hehe
Also, use any veg you have.  Stuff you are throwing out, peelings, that sort of thing.  I lived at the reduced veg section of tescos too! I found Brocoli to be a great filler and she loved it but only cooked.  It didn't bother me as I wasn't giving her it for the nutrients, only to fill her up.

I also had to get the girl spayed last year and boy, you think you have it hard now? Wait till after that!  I swear that dog eats air and puts on weight.  She has been checked for everything diabetes, thiroid(something else, I can't remember).  but nothing showed up.  It's just her metabolisim.  But she is twice the size now she is spayed but it was spay or lose her so I need to fight the fat!  And she is still really active! God help me should anything happen their! I'll sell her to the circus.  Bearded, fat lady!!hehe

Imy raw fed flatcoat suddenly well I thought it was suddenly was carrying way too much weight. I cut her food considerably and added veg I like for convenience Natures diet banquet. She is now a good weight but as you said she is ascrouger ( was anyway but now worse) so have decided to up the veggie bit of her food while poo watching. I woudnt normal add veg my other two who don't have weight problems are fine without.    I  totally raw feed so if you are kibble feeding too I am not sure how you would work out the kibble percentages. Like  cracars ideas for her dog

Yep, my 2 collies would do that given the chance :-D I'd still rather they were lean and scavenging than porky. I keep the house bin in a cupboard and keep an eye on them when out, they're well behaved enough to leave something if told too but of course I have to see it first so they do claim the odd prize outside. If yours won't 'leave' a basket muzzle as suggested is a good idea.

Carrots have a high sugar content so are higher  in calories, as I said before the only veg that worked for me was the frozen sliced green beans, even grew some beans one summer and added them to the freezer but really they were more hassle than the cost of buying a cheap range from the supermarket.
