I stopped posting and reading this forum as I was getting nasty comments left in my messages.  Probably because I don't explain myself very well or readers don't read the question right.  Whatever.  I'm viewing a puppy tomorrow and want to post where and who I'm going to see and wondered if anyone on here would check the breeder out and give their views.  Yes, also on GSD forum as recommended.

It wouldn't be right to post where you're going because that could be misinterpreted as advertising the litter, and advertisements aren't allowed on the forum. :-) Hopefully someone with specialist breed knowledge will read this and PM you about it.

Have you rung the breed club/s and spoken to the secretary? Have you googled the breeder's name for show results etc?
- By Bunnyfluff Date 03.01.13 07:48 UTC
Thanx Jeangenie I have googled only.  One person on other forum really hates the breeder but I think it is personal.

I am alarmed that you have been getting abused via your PMs you really should complain to admin and they will no doubt deal with it if the messages are abusive however if it is just a case that they do not agree with you that is a different matter.

As has been said do not put the name of the breeder on this forum but rather go to see and make your own mind up, would say that the first time you meet a breeder should not really be when you go to see a puppy as it is difficult with a cuddly puppy in your arms to assess the conditions of the breeding, the ability of the breeder to support you and the quality of the adult animals. Mind you perhaps you know the breeder from going to shows etc, you have not said so I do not know, ask the breed club and take a look at goggle results and perhaps the health results on the KC site.

Sorry posting when you did, you say you have googled what results did you get, is this breeders dogs in the background of other peoples nice dogs? At least if someone dislikes the breeder is a reason to think that they are at least known in breed circles what is the general opinion of people who know them, does this persons dogs not a reasonable amount of winning and are they only owned by the breeder or do other people win with this breeders dogs.

That's always a problem; sometimes when people are asked why they wouldn't recommend a breeder the reason, if forthcoming at all, can be completely irrelevant ("She said nasty things about my dog" for instance)!

If the breeder shows or works their dogs (and if they don't, why are they breeding?) successfully the results will be fund on the 'net and then you can use the KC website health check page to find out more. Not all tests are recorded there, but it's a help. Good luck!

I have looked at your previous posts and the replies and all has been good advice and exchanges, so if you have had nasty PM's (can't see why you would, as nothing confrontational in threads) I would certainly report to admin.

Hey Bunnyfluff, Sorry to hear you let someone so pathetic chase you from this very informative forum.  Don't let it happen again! Report them!!
I have a GSD.  Only 1(that's enough!lol).  The one thing I would tell you is do your research.  It took almost a year for us to pick a breeder before putting our name down for a pup.  There are so many health issues to dodge and then you need to worry about tempermants and stuff!  What forum are you on?  And PM me the breeder you are thinking of.  I think I have a fair idea of who it may be and I know why you are being put off.  I know their dogs are stunning but so are the amount of health issues in those lines.  If you want, you can still take your chances, it is up to you in the end.  Peoples opinions are just that.  But, if I got info to stay away from a particular breeder, I would take heed.
Whatever you decide.  Best of luck with a fabulous breed.

there are a few 'camps' in GSDs and if one breeder is in one 'camp' and an advisor in another 'camp' then they wont recommend them, however good they are....  do your checks, check out their other dogs, do you like the 'type', the temperament of these dogs?  do you like their basic structure  - this will depend on what 'camp' you're in ;-)  if you like their set up, their dogs and they're the type of dog you're looking for then ignore advice to the contrary - or at least check out advice from the same 'camp' as this breeder... supporters of other 'types' of shep just wont give you an answer over the breeder, just the type of dog, unfortunately.
