Hi All

Just wondering where you get your hibiscrub from i have been searching the internet and cannot remember where i purchased my last lot from but prices seem to have gone higher than i remember paying last time?
Also used to buy 500 tubs of prition but everywhere seems to be out of stock of these big tubs now anybody know where i can get hold of these from, find buying in bulk a lot better than buying the small packs for Robbie and getting them from the vet works out too much.

Thanks in advance
Helen

get my hibiscrub from my local lloyds pharmacy or superdrug as a small bottle lasts me ages. can't help with piriton as I only ever buy small packs

I bought my last tub of 500 from

www.hyperdrug.co.uk

same for hibiscrub.

Ditto JeanSW.  Hyperdrug and both are currently in stock...

Worth noting that the price for 500 Piriton from Hyperdrug has been the same since at least Dec 2011 - still £8.69.  I had to buy some from Chemist4U in the summer and it was £11.99   Hibiscrub is the same now as it was in April - £37.79 for 5L and I seem to recall I paid that in 2011 too :)

I buy hibiscrub from our local agricultural merchants for around £5 for 500ml, they are always far cheaper than any online discount supplier for basics like this.

>£5 for 500ml

Hyperdrug is £4.79 for 500ml, so no more expensive.  And naturally their larger size does work out very much cheaper again.

This thread reminded me to buy some today.  Local ag store £4.49 inc vat for 500ml, 5 lt £27.98

We get our Hibiscrub from any of the canine chemists online, once bought from the chemist in the village, nearly collapsed at the price.

Hi

Just checked on hyperdrug for the pirition 500 and its says underneath the item that it is currently out of stock and has been for the past few months as i have been looking every week or so?
Anywhere else i can try for this????

That's odd - I checked for you when I first posted and it was showing as in stock!  You could try Chemist4U or Petmeds maybe

V odd - I've just done a quick Google and noticed that all the places I've previously bought Piriton from are out of stock AND some of those companies are now showing it as a prescription only drug.  There are also a few comments to say there is a manufacturer delay...  Perhaps a change is afoot

Have you emailed Hyperdrug to ask them?  Might be worth hearing what they say

It's a Rx item here in Ontario.  This stuff was suggested to me by some of you, people in the U.S. and people in other provinces who can all get it off the shelf.  Not me, in Ontario it has just become a Rx item and, get this, only available to Veterinarians.  My local pharmacy (human) is not allowed to order it.

I did manage to get a bottle called Stanicide (sp?) from nursey sister, who scoffed it from her hospital. Shsssh, don't tell.  ;)

REally though, maybe you should all stock up while you can.

Just phoned hyperdrug and they said there is a manufacturers delay and they are not sure when they will be back in stock to order, the lady i spoke to said it will be at least the new year before any more of the large packs come in. Surely this drug won't go as prescription only as this has been available over the counter for years??

Piriton appears to be out of stock pretty much everywhere at the moment - it sort of crept up on me when I was trying to get hold of some

We have tried Tesco, Sainsburys (who have literally been out for months), Boots, Co-operative, Lloyds and independent pharmacies - I have also just checked a few online sellers (which is how I stumbled across this thread) and they appear to be out of stock as well.

This has been a real pain for me as I rely on them pretty much daily for managing my eczema - the Piriton liquid appears to still be available - but as anyone who has used it will know, the taste is rank.

IME - few pharmacies will offer the generic alternative - so you will need to ask for Chlorpheniramine - many pharmacies don't keep it available on open view sale, but in their dispensing area so you may well have to bypass the pharmacy technician and ask them to check with the pharmacist.  (I've never found the generic as effective as the brand - but beggars can't be choosers - and the price is considerably lower than  the branded product)

Hope the above is of use to anyone else who's been struggling to get hold of Piriton.

In Boots the generic equivalent is called Allergy Relief Antihistamine tablets. The active ingredient is Chlorphenamine Maleate. Another chain (Lloyds?) sells it by the name of Hayleve. It's definitely worth asking for it at the counter as in my experience, most pharmacies do stock a generic equivalent to Piriton. And sue51 says, it's lots cheaper than Piriton. Personally I haven't noticed the own brand products as being less effective (mind you, it's for one of the dogs, but he doesn't seem any the worse on them). So I always ask for them now, just as I would always buy Ibuprofen as opposed to Neurofen.
