Hi,

Had a couple of critiques for my girl recently where I wasn't sure what certain words/expressions mean. Can anyone help?

Handy bitch

Strong loin

Ta!

Well strong loin is what you want as it means the back between th ribs and pelvis is properly muscled and strong.

Handy???

I would take "handy" to be a complimentary stockman's type expression of a 'workman'-like (is that a word ... and should it be workgirl?!) dog. I have also heard "useful" used in the same way, or at least that's how I read it.

Be interesting to see others' views though, as I could be entirely wrong.

That's how I would take it too

Thanks all for the input.  I understand the loin one now, and yes apparently "handy" does mean workman like/correct size & build to work.  She's had "honest" and "useful" in other critiques so it follows now I think about it.

I'm still new to all this so enjoy reading critiques for her and other Airedales so I can see how she compares, if there are areas to be improved etc.

She sounds from the words you have used to not be a 'glamouous' and 'eyecatching' girl, but to be well made with everything in the right place, which many kennels would then choose tio use as a brood bitch

She's definitely not glamourous, but she does like her mud baths!!
