I can definitely vouch for Hessonite (showleads link), I use their leather slip and it is beautifully soft. My friend has a leather/nylon slip and that is just as nice, so much so that I have decided I need one as a spare. Note the need, not just want. It can be a spare in case I lose my other spare show lead.

I buy my showleads from Deva Dogware, they have a website.

I like the look of the Hessonite leads with the swivel but they don't look terribly think and strong, am I wrong in thinking this? My pup is really quite string and I would hate to spend money on a lead that was to snap.

I haven't used them one's to my knowledge but look similar to ones friends use and they are strong.  I have used very thin leather and very thin chains on my setters and never had a lead break.  The worst that happends is the stiching on mine have started to come undone but where I got them from stich them back up for free.

Most of my full leather leads have a swivel in them.

Just remember they are only for use in the show ring and training.

I might just add one to my wish list then. At the moment I am using an 8mm rolled leather slip lead for training and it does twist terribly so I like the idea of the swivel.

I have the half check ones, although from a different company and cheaper, not sure he does it anymore as I've not seen him at shows and he was quite ill a couple of years ago.  I have quite strong dogs to and unfortunately one that is a puller and I've never ever worried about them breaking and I've had them for years now.

I use the Hessonite ones for my Border Collies both girls and boy and have had no trouble at all with them. My neice has a slip one for her rather boistrous Labrador boy and it is fine also.

What do you think about using one on an aussie he is very strong and I wasn't sure whether to use a half check or a slip lead

I too have the Hessonite ones for my very strong large breed, same as Gill I have never had one snap yet. HTH :)

luxway.

It is the leather with the swivel that I use and they are much stronger than they look. I am not sure, but I have a feeling that I was told that they have a strong nylon running through the centre. If you are really worried, why not give them a ring.
