I know you can change a pups name when transfered, by adding the affix on etc....but just wondered if anyone knows the situation if dog to be jointly owned and 1 of joint owners affix can be added. Also...if it can, then can you add affix of joint overseas owner??

If the dog is joint owned and the affix is sole owned you would have to transfer the dog back to the sole affix owner to add the affix and then back to the joint owners. Only if the affix is jointly owned can you add it to a jointly owned dog.I have done this in the past. Puppy transfers from me to me and joint owner, then back to sole affix holder to add affix, then back to joint owners..................

Lots of dosh for the KC!!

The dog would need to be transferred into the other party's ownership, affix added, then transferred back.

As to the overseas affix - not sure, but I'd doubt it.

Hi Sam

the others have given the accurate scenario re adding the UK affix.  Regarding the overseas one, under our rules KC names can only be changed once (i.e. adding the Affix) but of course on paying a designated sum (used to be £25) a registered name can be changed to another entirely so long as the dog has not been shown or bred from and within a set period (think 12 months but possibly less) and with breeders permission.

If your overseas owner's affix is not too long and is not one used or likely to be used in the UK, then I'd add it as integral with the KC registered name from the outset.  For example Hunters Hound Over #insert overseas affix#   I personally know this has been done successfully before but it depends on the name/word of the non UK affix.  I also tried it for another exported pup but it was disallowed as the US affix was a name that although currently unregistered as an affix here the KC felt likely to be chosen in the future LOL.

I did this with a puppy going to Australia where there is no provision to adding the owners affix.  I rang KC and asked if the word would be a problem re someone else's affix and it wasn't so she was registered Bxxxxxxx Dystans Nynorsk (new owners overseas affix), but of course the KC had no idea that the last word was an overseas affix.

i have been told by the kc that i can not add my affix to my two tt's that are registered in uk even though all 3 of my tt's have my prefix added here in ireland , yet a couple of friends who have lhasa's have their prefix added and the sire of one of my dogs who is a finnish import also has the prefix of his owner added ......

very confusing

ah well unfortunately we dont know which colour they are having yet...and they are already registered...and yes it is australia so seems it could be a problem. Will have to look into the £25 name change thing once they have decided which colour! :)

The KC forms for change of name other than the addition of a kennel name is on this link

"The only permissible reasons for a change of name are:-
a) The breeder misspelt the name
b) The breeder did not specify the name requested by the owner
c) The breeder did not give an alternative name and initial the box to prevent The Kennel Club selecting a name
d) The Kennel Club choice of name is not considered acceptable."

"2. The applicant may use this form only if the dog has been registered with The Kennel Club within the past three months."

BTW it's now £30 !

Not much of a price hike then as I used that scheme in 1995 and it was £25 - good to know that not everything is quite as high as inflation :)
