If they get a job then what's the problem they aren't a darin on resources,a dn having worked in the socail security system, they aren't going to be able to get benefits.

Even those from EEC countries who come here to work can't claim benefits until they ahve been here and worked a minimum lenght of time(think it is a year).

I wholly agree with you Barbara :  instead of complaining about how awful our country is for letting all these people in - maybe we should actually be PROUD of the fact that some of them risk life and limb to come here!

As for all the kerfuffle about "taking our jobs/our benefits/houses" - give a thought to the other side of the coin .......how many of "our" people actually WANT to do the jobs these people are doing?   Would you like to be working as a cockle picker/in the sex industry etc etc etc?  And before anyone screams at me for bringing up the sex industry - who are the customers for this horrrible trade???

With a surname like ours (you can see it in my profile :eek:) we KNEW from the word go that our children would be teased/bullied about it - so before they even started school, we started to give them the confidence to brush it off - sometimes successfully, sometimes not.

My family are bilingual, though the kids Polish is quite poor these days.  they got teased at primary school when they realised we could speak a foreign language.

I told my kids to ask them how many languages did they speak, and whether it made them smarter than them for knowing only one (that isn't to say I think language skils or lack are a mark of inteligence) turning their insults back on them.

I have also asked them to retort they aren't sheep they don't need to follow blindly after each other in what they wear or do.

Thats only if they declare they are working.

<If they get a job then what's the problem they aren't a darin on resources

BUT they do stop other people from getting those job OR driving the price of manual labour down. If a builder/farmer can employ a legally resident person for minimum wage or an illegal for £10 a day, who do you think will get the job?

lots of people would be glad of jobs (OK maybe not the sex industry:cool:) but due to large amounts of cheap labour the wages aren't there. Conditions are another thing, the Morcoombe Bay tragedy wouldn't have occured with proper health and safety regs.

When you watch Crimewatch, a large number of crimes are commited by forgien nationals. These people may be fine at home in 'their own country' (to use a phrase i don't like) but when they come to a place where no-one knws they even exsit, let alone where they are, it gives them a free reign.

Is it only 'British' men that use prostitutes? Or maybe men a long way from home would as well?

If the Builder/farmer employs an illegal for £10 a day then S/HE is breaking the law as much as an "illegal" - what s/he is doing is ILLEGAL.  They are also compounding the problem.

Of course, other people are bemoaning the fact that the minimum wage (£5.05 per hour) is too high.......

The company I work for employs a lot of Asian workers.  We cannot get anyone else to work for the minimum wage.  The minimum wage to someone who has come from India or Sri Lanka is a lot of money when they send it back home.

Their family values are very different to ours, they work all hours to earn as much money as they can, to send it back to their parents.  This is expected of them and they are very happy to do it.

They will live cheaply, several to a flat, if they are not working, they are sleeping so do not spend much.

If we didn't employ them I can tell you that your petrol stations would not be open 24/7.

The chicken and the egg senerio comes in when the miniumum wage is too low for the average 'British' person as he/she can claim as much from the state if they have children, for not working.  The average 'British' person wants to spend more time with their family so are not so keen to work 12 hour shifts (understandably).  Unfortunately, the average 'British' person also whinges and complains all day about how hard done by they are and are not so polite to the companies customers.
The Asian worker will work long shifts, cover shifts at short notice and smile and treats customers, employers and fellow employees with respect.

This is unfortunately a fact of life.

But this is people who want to work legally, and pay taxes etc not sit on their rears doing nothing but take drugs, deal them and cause crime. These people are very genuine, with only their families on their minds, and they work, as you say, damned long hours for that reason. if they take a job that a Britt turns the nose up to, then its the Brits fault, not theirs. Damned good luck to them I say.
