Topic Dog Boards / Health / Bit of Info On Booster Protocols

I only recall one such post recently, a couple of weeks ago.  As was said in that thread, as the protocol recommends some components to be given annually, annual reminders seem entirely appropriate.
I would have thought if any poster were finding their vets were not adopting the new protocol they surely would have posted by now either on that thread or the two recent ones, I don't recall anyone has.
When poster ask are boosters necessary why not just reply, yes, the protocol (devised with help by eminent and respected scientists) recommends it.
As I said previously I have since had the part/annual vaccine so my vets coffers will already be depleted for this year with no sign of her going out of business :)

I think I will give up on this thread.  It's like flogging a dead horse

Since I have nothing to compare and Paris' boosters are due in a few weeks I feel I have no alternative but to take the advice of my vet since he is the only expert I can speak to.

I have searched past threads for the links but they come up with page unavailable or whatever it says when you are not allowed to view it.  As for J Dodds, I can see she is a researcher in a charitable organisation but can't find any of her research referenced anywhere yet.  What am I supposed to make of it?

Oh well never mind, lifes like that sometimes ain`t it

Gosh you are lucky having your vet be an expert, what does he specialise in??

Make anything you want of it, perhaps your expert vet will tell you what to make of it all?  :)

Why not reply NO:confused:

Because that is not the protocol in the UK, the one that you are concerned not enough vets are aware of and are not following.  Why on earth do you go on about the need to only vaccinate for certain diseases 3 yearly, which everybody seems to be doing anyway , when in fact you don't think they should be boosters at all!

Well at least my vet will have access to current up to date information such as the elusive research that you say you've read.  He will have access to other research which must be explaining why dog owners should be boostering for certain diseases.  I would say that makes him more of an expert in animal management than me or you seeing that the GP an't access the same information.

I too think that the most reliable person to ask, the one with access to all the latest recommendations and training to understand the technical terms, is your vet. :) After all, he's the one who runs the risk of legal action if he gets it wrong, not some anonymous person on the 'net.

A vet does not need to be an expert he only needs to know what the consensus of the experts is, the last thing I would want from my vet is health care delivered from the views of one, possibly maverick, individual.

>Lots of manu`s & vets are worried about considerable loss of income from giving less vaccines & that is why the vet profession worldwide are dragging their feet on this whole issue.

Do you genuinely think that the loss of £6-ish per dog annually can't be made up somewhere else? After all, the lepto booster lasts less than one year so needs at least annual boosting, therefore the vet still gets the regular consultation fee when the dog comes for that.

Perhaps you missed this reply to your original post, Christine.
