I agree but I cynically believe that it is about how much money the KC can bring in. They really don't need the hobby breeder/breeder that only breeds occasionally to keep something for the ring, as that sort of breeder doesn't bring the revenue in. Yes I know I am being very cynical but Bill Lambert actually admitted to me at an AGM where he was giving a talk about the benefits of the ABS when I said about puppy farmers being bread and butter especially if they join the ABS and it brings in more income, I said 'so it is about the money' and he said 'well, yes'. I then said I didn't need to hear any more and left.

I thought it was 12 months between matings?  Have recently seen a litter on champdogs and there is not 12 months between matings they are KC ABS breeders so how the hell did they get away with registration?  MONEY MONEY MONEY in my opinion!, how can we promote a scheme when we know that it breaks the rules?

The KC are happy to register puppies from litters born without a 12 month period between matings. The only way that they can be stopped is if they are a licensed breeder in which case the criteria is that the bitch must have a 12 month period between litters under the Breeding and Sale of Dogs (Welfare) Act 1999. KC don't follow the law of the land!!

Yeah I know, but as a breeder on the ABS breeder scheme, you are supposed to bide by the rule!  Just makes a joke of the whole scheme, wich we are supposed to be promoting to the government to help make the new breeding laws better for all.  Cant believe that this site allowed them to be advertised.  just checked and there are two litters from the same breeder.

If the litter breaks the Champdogs rules of 11 months between successive litters please post a link to it here and the litter will be removed.

The rule is in place to stop breeders who breed their dogs on consecutive seasons.

The average time between seasons is 6 months, so setting our limit to 11 months gives some leeway to a breeder with a bitch whose cycle is a little less than 6 months. We apply this rule rigidly, so if a bitch has a cycle of less than 5.5 months a breeder would have to wait at least 2 seasons if they wished to list the litter on Champdogs.

I am glad to see that the litter you refered to did not infringe our rules.

The breeder may well not be breaking the rules.  ONLY licenced breeders have to meet this criteria not members of the ABS and not a member of champdogs ( unless of course the are licenced).

Yes and I have told all my breeder friends about this too and they are all wondering whether they should reconsider their membership.  The KC need to look after the very people they are suppose to serve and be honest with us.

I didnt renew my ABS this year, think its just another money making plan. I do wonder why the bitch couldnt have 2 seasons off, unless you are breeding for profit. I only breed for myself, so to wait another season or 2 wouldnt bother me especially if I had run a puppy on from the litter before.
