masajackrussell:> So an ancestor of some of your dogs has produced epileptic progeny.

A friend of mine has done the bit of digging around you suggested and found some surprising information.

Jack Russell Terriers are one of the most common breeds affected by epilepsy at a rate of 5.8% nationally.  Perhaps doing a little bit of research into your previous generations rather than just the parentage is warranted too.  I understand it is very difficult as no one has been advised of a test for epilepsy but just wanted to give you the 'heads up'

This is true and I have done my research into my pedigrees - all ok - but thanks for your effort in asking a friend to google for you and for your overall concern for the health of my breed. It is appreciated.

There is a difference between knowing breed statistics and knowing that an individual has produced a problem though.

No need for thanks and I am pleased to hear all your offsping/progeny have been contacted and checked especially as you cannot know for certain unless one has been diagnosed.

That's for sure!  Keep up the homework would be my advice - you just never know? When tests are unavailable, no one can guarantee an outcome.

BSD(Terv) research into epilepsy

Interestingly
Labradors
are one of the breed with a higher than average risk of epilepsy along with Standard Poodles which is why crossing these 2 breeds isn't a good thing!
