The only ignorance displayed here is by people that think they know something about "shock" collars or how invisible fencing works, when clearly they do not. 

Not to mention the nonsense about the Hunting Act applying to a dog that might chase a mouse in a garden.  Or the number of people here who apparently don't allow their dogs in their own gardens, other than to be confined to a kennel run, or I suppose on a lead so they cannot chase any wild animals and violate the Hunting Act, and don't believe their dogs should use a garden to exercise their brains and their bodies.

I think the difference is that the electric fence we use with horses is visible - so they get a zap and avoid touching the tape again. The dog with the invisible fence has no visible deterrent and has to learn that the beep means a zap with no indication of when it might happen.
