Walking mostly. I have to be very careful what I do with my back so as not to put it under any strain. Before I started having Chiro treatment I was waking in the middle of the night, frozen in one position, and my back was agony. I had about 6 sessions and the relief after was just brilliant. I wasn't overly keen on him twisting my neck LOL, but it worked! Now it just gets sore when I do things that involve too much bending in one position.

Heat against my back is defintiely out for me. The inflammation was between the spinal bone things - in the area I had 2 spinal blocks with my c-sections actually - so I had to work on resting and reducing that inflammation first, then increasing walking and gentle exercise to stop the muscles tightening again :)

so glad Chloe that you have found what works for you I think that is the main thing ,a lot of what my pain stems from is an emergency hysterectomy 21 years ago after giving birth then numerous operation on my bladder  and laparoscopy's to many to mention this has left a lack of muscle in my stomach which affects my back plus adhession pain I will have for life according to my specialists so a lovely hot water bottle gives me relief and helps me to abstain from taking pain relief tablets from the doctor ....this helps me carry on with a normal day to day activities and to keep up with my lovely dogs.

My chiro told me to use ice too. Frozen peas are great :D I had sciatica all through December and January really sore and had to use a frame to get about. Doctor told me he could only give me pain relief and advise me to see a chiro. I've been left with a dropped foot and still use a stick. When I was referred to the orthopaedic department they said it had all come from a slipped disc. I've now got reduced grip in my hands which they think might be coming from arthritis in my neck.
So now I'm waiting for physio for my back AND my neck

Heigh Ho :D

The benefits and uses of heat and cold on injuries are discussed here. Basically, use cold to reduce swelling and heat to ease stiff muscles. :)

Yep that just about agrees with the 'professional's advice' above! :D
I always love a soak in a hot bath when I've been gardening .  But that's very different from muscles going into spasm to protect damage/injury, which is what Michelle has done is some shape or form.  If you don't know what's causing the discomfort, then it's best to get advice from a professional.

Swimming really helped me a few yrs ago when my back siezed up. After a course of physio at the hospital I went to the chiropractor & started swimming every other day, I couldn`t believe how much it helped :)

I had two prolapsed discs a few years ago which were pressing on the sciatic nerve and giving me a very numb leg and foot.  I had a caudal epidural injection (of steroids) in hospital twice and it made an amazing difference.  For any of you with similar problems it might be worth asking about.

Having said that, three years later it is starting to get bad again, so I'm back on the waiting list!

I remember seeing this 'thing' in a catalogue somewhere, its a back support 'thingy' that goes along the spine verticaly and down across the lower back. I believe it was called 'COSMODICS' but been searching on the net and cant find where to buy them....has anyone heard about this or knows where to get one from??
