Was that a little brown one John??????
- By Moonmaiden Date 25.01.05 12:59 UTC
No it was a big black one LOLOL The owner of the brown did it by accident picked up a henna shammpoo for brown coat, friends of mine(now sadly both deceased) were very close friends with the browns owner & there was no way she needed to cheat

No this was a very big name(still is I suppose)in difference breeds not just poodles

It's like myself with Spanish Water Dogs, we're not allowed to enter anything but the import register class.  I have imported a champion and he can't even go to matches because he's a Champion of Spain, although he can't win anything as such over here!  Seems a daft rule to me.

I have read all the posts with much interest and now feel daunted at what seems like a minefield of cheats and back stabbers.  I have found the dog shows that i have attended as a spectator to be visibly bitchy and cliquey, and a small part of me thinks "Am i ready for all this shannanigans", but i,ve got a nice pup and naturally want to show him.  I guess i,ll just have to thicken my skin up a little and carry a big stick <grins>

I really like standard poodles but only when they are not in the pom pom cut! I would be so embarrased to walk down the street with one. They are suposed to be one of the cleverest breeds so I have heard but that pruning and preening just seems so humiliating for them.
Sorry poodle people but just my opinion.

Problem is, Will, the Kennel Club are perfectly well aware that this happens - plenty of the judges are members - they have hands on the dogs so must feel the laquer/chalk, they visit the benches and they show their own dogs (chalk and all). To attend a show and not be aware of this would mean you were blind with no sense of smell or touch! :D Have to admit though, each to their own, but I find the gundog and hound benches rather overpowering with the strong whiff of dog!
- By Dill [gb] Date 25.01.05 11:22 UTC
The thing that gets me is that exhibitors who liberally chalk and spray their dogs are putting those who don't at risk of censure :(  How easy is it to avoid your own dog getting covered when the offender is benched next to you??

I too think that the KC are guilty of double standards, on the one hand banning products in the coat in the ring but on the other taking money from the stalls which blatantly sell exactly those products which are banned!!

Will, you could get in serious trouble camcording, I personally wouldn't bother.

MM I once heard of a leo that had its mask painted black because it was getting old and had gone grey...one show she was grey, next she was black...However I don't know what happend.

Also know of someone who had a dog with a pink ear just intime for crufts!  They had to get permission to show, the dog decided to put his head in the bin which had left over hair die in!!! :D

was it grecian for men that gets rid of the grey lolol
- By John [gb] Date 25.01.05 14:37 UTC
Think I need some of that for mine! On second thoughts, I've not got enough now to justify the expense :p
- By Moonmaiden Date 25.01.05 14:39 UTC
Makes you look distingushed a touch or two of grey

- By John [gb] Date 29.01.05 18:21 UTC
Fluff it up Daisy? You would need good eyes to find anything to fluff up now! :p Anno Domini is taking it's toll. :(

<whispers in Johns ear>... you heard of hair follicle transplants?
- By John [gb] Date 29.01.05 18:58 UTC
I'll leave that to the other John, Daisy, Elton John. He can afford I! It's cheaper to transplant a "flat 'at" or my Aus bush hat (minus the corks) onto the top of it. ;)

Best wishes, John

Hi all,

I am still waiting for an answer as to whether the black shampoo for blacks is worth buying or will my alow vera for pups suffice.  I did ask this question a few days ago but it got lost in the banter i think.   Any ideas on a nice shampoo for coated pups would be much appreciated.     peace love and unity :o)

Depends what sort of coat & whether you use non natural products i only use natural products on my dogs Dorren Paige Peach oil is my favourite & !Quistel to encourasge the coat to grow on my cavaliers

Daisy if you look back to your original post you will see I replied with my experiences/views on coloured shampoos.  Its the one just below your first post.

Hi Fifi,

Sorry i missed your post, will go back and have a look.  He (Alfie) is a 14 week old American Cocker and his coat is now beginning to grow and thicken but at the moment still seems woolly, i was thinking more of a shampoo for the future when it is completely long.  I have started to half bathe him once a week (just dip his feet up to his knees in bath) to get him used to the feel of the water (and to wash anyway any wee that seems to cover his feet when he goes lol). :o)

Im afraid yours is not a breed that I know much about so I cant really advise you on a shampoo for when you start showing him.  If I was you I would watch your breed carefully at a show and find the one that is best presented then go and speak to the ownder/handler of that dog and ask their advice.  Hopefully they will be helpful (though I have to admit that not everyone is!), please make sure though that you wait until they have finished showing their dog before you approach them.  Would have thought the breeder of your pup would have advised you about shampoos/ coat care etc?

Dezyna Dogs do a good shampoo and texturising range called Crown'nGlory - it reallymakes the coats look and feel great - I have also used a shampoo for a terrier type of coat to maintain the harshness after bathing  my BSD's coats particularly if I have to give them a bath close to a big show .

Trevor I use a terrier shampoo on mine - it guarantees no conditioner, coat improver etc., just the basic shampoo to get the coat clean :)  have to say I prefer it, most shampoos soften the coat too much (and my hair :( )
