All MG, Rover, Vauxhall Astra, Jaguar, Lotus, TVR, Morgan  - all made in UK - and I'm sure I've missed some.

I thought alot of these car manufacturers had either moved abroad or been taken over by a foreign company.  Who cares anyway, most of my belongings are probably made in other countries - even my dog is Irish, I bet even the flag that I have yet to put on my car wasnt made in England :D :D

Probably China - mine was!

I care - it's not just cars though. It's really hard to find British stuff to buy sometimes, whether it's food, clothes, electrical etc but in most cases I have a good try. You should see me in Sainsburys checking the country of origin on the apples !!.

Sorry that was probably said out of context, I do care, I think some things you just cant help not buying british.  I am like you though, I always try to buy british in the Supermarkets :)

I was reading in one of today's papers that the flags were made in china.

I think the woman ebing interviewed on the BBC news this morning would have words to say about that ;) She was definitely English ..and in England ...one of the biggest flag makers here apparantly ..they made the pitch covering English flag for the rugby match earlier this year ;)

I can understand why some councils have got jittery about this, there is no doubt the British and English flags have been highjacked in recent years by a very nationalistic element.  Billy Bragg was talking about this on the radio at the weekend, he was at an anti Nazi demo when a BNP counter demonstration (of one :)) showed up waving the British flag as he said if all his demonstrators had whipped out a flag and waved it it would have taken the wind right out of his sail :D.  I totally agree with his view that sport is the perfect oportunity, due to its support and participation by all members of our diverse nation, to claim the flag back and remove it as symbolic of members of our society who don't deserve it.

It's perfectly true that our flags have been hijacked, making it well-nigh impossible to be patriotic (I love my country) without other people thinking you are racist (I don't care what colour people are, or where they were born). The two are not connected at all, except in the small, narrow, closed minds of some people. So we should be able to fly our flag, whether it's that of St George, St Andrew, St Patrick, the Union flag, the Welsh dragon, the Scottish lion or whatever, without anyone feeling intimidated by it.
