Hi i use a gentle leader on my lab, we did have a halti but he broke it, this morning Toby broke his gentle leader, so i thought i would go buy him a half choke chain, took him for a walk and after the first 10 mins of pulling because he was excited he started walking nicely, and i thank the headcollars for this i think they are great, hopefully i wont need one now but they did the job for us, and i would recommend them to anyone,

Good stuff Heidi and co28 :) The Happy Halti Gang show it does work and can be used flexibly. Ive revised my opinion of the half check as well now Ive learned to use it properly, the rattle of the rings warns Morse hes going too far, and he drops back. Also found he cant pull me when walking on my right hand side, as he usually is on the left. Serendipity. :)

I have started using a dogmatic headcollar on the Moosical and she after a couple of protests has taken to it very well. We even had a lovely meeting with two JRT puppies yesterday afternoon. I gently checked her and told her to sit and she did it straight away and sat and waited one of the puppies to come upto her and they had a lovely kiss and smell session :D I think they are very very good and have a calming effect which is great as an aid to focus on voice commands :) They get my vote ;)

Hi Guys,

I have just started using a halti on Gundo (10 month old male Golden). Its wonderful now walks to heel perfectly .He started pulling about a month ago and is sooooo strong .
The problem is in  the show ring he has an extremely thin slip show lead and I am finding difficult to make him to a triangle at a nice steady trot like he used to ,without him now breaking into gallop and pulling to the other dogs.I'm hoping this is just a phase and mentally he stiil maturing and trying to to see how much he can get away with.I never had a problem with my bitches.I do attend a good ringcraft where he does the trianle well with the thin slip lead but when I go to a show now its a different story.
Grateful for any advice.

Briony:-)

Hi Briony. I think you still need to use the show lead for ringcraft training. The ring must not be "Different" to training or he will behave differently. Dogs get use to routines. Anna knows when she is going out working by the clothes I'm wearing. Show dogs start to realise whats happening when the show bag starts to get packed.

Were he my dog I would walk him to the park on the halti, slip it off and put the show lead on. Do a couple of triangles and up and downs. I would then slip it off and let him have a run as reward for the work.

Best wishes, John

Hi John,

Thanks for replying ,when we go to ring craft I don't use the halti it is the show lead,I use the halti only for his normal everyday walks. He behaves himself reasonbly well at ringcraft,
but suddenly hes just got it into his head to mess about in the ring and try to play with all the other dogs so the triangle is proving difficult, stands perfectly for the judge no problems.Between 6-9 months he was good at doing the triangle he didn't bother with the
other dogs,he never use to pull on evryday walks either so i'm at a loss just trying to perevere.

What age is he now Briony? It could just be that he is in the "Kevin" period?? They all go through it, some quickly others take 12 to 14 years ;)

Best wishes, John
