Hi, it seems to me that you have no idea what you are on about and you talk utter rubbish. You ask a question and then answer it yourself. By the tone of your posts, grammer and spelling I would suspect that you are very young so it might be best if we all put our engeries into something more worth while. Anyway just to upset you even more I live on a shooting and hunting estate. Whilst I do not totally agree with hunting and shooting I respect rural live and I have access to 1800 acres of ground to exercise my dogs which they love!

thankyou val i knew there had to be someone out there who found killing rabbits as vile and disgusting as i do ,and was good enough to give their opinion, nobody else seems to find a problem with it which i think is very odd and worrying.being able to let your dog kill another animal is wrong and there should be a law against it or maybe there is i shall have to look into that!

Hello Shaunie,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I do find it vile and disgusting and what worries me more than anything is the thought of an innocent animal lying injured somewhere. left to die in agony after being chased for its life. I do feel it should be illegal - and I wish dog owners would be more responsible. If their dog is likely to kill it should be kept on a lead. (thats my own personal view anyway). It's a very sad thing which I find difficult to discuss (which is why I couldn't reply at first) but having seen your post Shaunie I just had to add my thoughts - I do agree with you 100%.

Best wishes,
Val :-)

Thanks Shaunie :-) I can't take full credit though because she was almost 10 months old when I adopted her from a rescue centre. (how on earth she ended up there I just do not know-seems the Mum of the family had to return to full time work but so sad because she came from quite a big family really, Mum, Dad, and 5 'children' - ages 12-22. Just three of us here but we love her so much and had no problems with her whatsoever - she's perfect :-) and dearly loved. She really is such a kind and sweet girl and I found her at just the right time, having lost my Collie a week before (had him from 12 weeks old until 16).
Thanks again for your nice words Shaunie - Poppy certainly is a fantastic dog :-)

Best wishes,
Val :-)

Mmmmm,
I also hate the idea of animals being left to die, which is why i dont agree with snaring, poisoning or shooting animals (fox, rabbit, hare whatever)......However you seem to have the misconception, despite my earlier posts, that my dog hunts for fun. He does not (although i cannot deny he enjoys his 'job') he hunts for food, and retrieves to hand....so there are no rabbits left lying around dying on my account.

Shaunie, no i am not God, should one exist in whatever format......however landowners are at liberty to cull pests, the rabbit being one of them, using dogs is just one method of doing so. I have permission to hunt rabbit (i also have permission for fox and hare, but choose not to hunt them for various reasons) and do so to feed my dogs, and for the joy of watching my lurcher do what he was bred to do.

Whether you eat meat or not to me IS a relevant question.....if you do then inevitably an animal suffers, thats about as relevant as you can get as far as i can see. To eat meat something has to die. I personally rather that my pets are fed on animals i have seen running about healthily all summer, rather than unknown animals brought up in less than humane conditions and killed cruelly.

Thats MY personal opinion, if you dont like it, tough!

no i don't agree with what you do,and you do care what i think or you would'nt be explaining yourself in such great detail makes me think your actually not totally comfortable with what your doing cos deep down you know its barbaric!!
- By theemx [gb] Date 27.09.03 23:24 UTC
actually shaunie, i DONT give a damn what you think of me, and thats irrespective of whether you agree with me or not...... if i gave a damn what people think of me, or if i was uncomfortable with the way i live, i wouldnt post about it on here!

The thought of one of my dogs hunting down and eating a defensless animal makes my heart bleed BUT i respect others opinions and just because i dont agree with what one dog owner does does not make that person WRONG,THEEMX what you do with your dog is your business and you have explained yourself fully AND politely, you dont have to keep justifying your self to this twat!
I think we must agree to disagree on this one:) It seems for everyones statement, someone is always quick to contradict!

Anyway on to my question theemx, you mentiones "mixamatosis" my dogs eat rabbit poop every now and then(i try & distract them but they still manage to get some)can they pick up mixa. from the poop?

SHAUNIE, like i said i strongly disagree with the said practice but i DO eat meat so who am i to judge, you still hav'nt replied to the "are you a vegetarian" question,if your answer is yes then i can understand where you are coming from, but it gives you no right to bash someone.i could go on&on how cruel it is but it is not going to make a difference to the people who do it,so please try and be a little more constructive!the only thing your posts did for me was give me a chuckle:):):)coz once people start being rude you can forget any respect for your posts or your opinion!

Hi Christine,
As far as I know myxomatosis is a virus passed to rabbits from their fleas. I'm sure it isn't transmissable to dogs by any method, but if in doubt either ask your vet, or google for info.
