I too like the 'human' dog names, some of them sound really good.
Anyway, my gang...their real names and then the silly things I call them.
GSD, Toro : Mr T, Tiger, Champ (although he isn't, it just make him feel good!!) and the big fella.
Demi....Demolition!! or Demo, or Slop bag!!
Gypsy, Gyp, dip, or dipstick!!
Sonny-Jim. SJ, skippy, Becks (he loves football, and he answers to any name!!!)
Bella, is belly button....or more often 'YOU DOZY COW!!'
Toby, is The colonel.
And, Bonnie, is Bon Bon, bonkers, or bonnie bumps.
So.thats my gang!!
could go on to tell you the horses, geese, pigeons, etc nicknames, but I won't!!
Take care

I would wait until you actually bring your puppy home and once he/she has been there for an hour or so you will know instinctively which name suits from the short list you will no doubt have made!

3. Gipsy (labrador)
4. Loki (or Miss Mischief)
5 & 6 Beau Piddley and Miss Vinnie Piddle (Aussie pups)

My lot are named after anything to do with Queen, the rock group, no the other one!!
Freida, GSD, aka Freddie
Delilah Maltese: song by queen
Meddow, Maltese: Roger Taylor's middle name
Roger, Maltese stud dog, after the drummer, who is a bit of a stud apparently!! With 5 kids.
Bijou, Bichon frise, Queen song
Rory, cocker spaniel: Roger Taylor's daughter name
Leaving that theme behind we have:
Ozzy, Newfoundland so named as he is big thick with long black hair and a bit of a nutter,
THEN WE DECIDED THAT OZZY NEEDED A sHARON AS HE IS NOTHING WITHOUT HER SO WE HAVE
Shasz Newfoundland, Then Megan, Cocker, my husbands choice
Ash cocker
Hamish Recent addition, Cocker Spaniel because wqe are going to live in Scotland and hamish is scottish.
All my puppies when registered are named after Queen songs even my affiz is Queen related.

Hi,
I agree with the others, dogs names get changed so easily into the most wierd names, ours have gone as follows:-
Taya is now known as Tat
Tassel has gone from Tassie to Cassie to Wizz??????
Rosa is now Rosebud or Spud
Truly was Lulu, then Chuchu, then winnie the pooh (she rolls in vile things!! :D) and now is Winifred
Joka is Jo-Jo, quite normal really :)
Echo was Echolina and is now either Ik???? or Lina or Bratt
Sparkle was Sparks and has now gone to Piglet or Mini-bratt
Mad I know, but always fun and they all answer to all of them!! :D

Used to have a dog called Glen - except we got him when he was 1 year old and he was named Sid - only trouble was our neighbour was also called Sid. We decided we needed to change the dogs name - just imagine us calling out "Sid - come and get your dinner" who would come running......the dog or the neighbour!!!
Also had a cat called Nelson but he often got Natt or Natty for short.

Bet you can't wait for your new boxer to come - our's is now 15 weeks old and he's a little superstar! He's called Dexter - we used Yahoo to do a search for "dogs names", then visited a few sites - try it - there's some strange names on there but its a good way to see whats there.

Just been reading through the various posts - some hilarious names and nicknames!
My PRT is called Tetley - as in tea not bitter. When we first got him we couldn't get him to drink for the first few days and someone suggested trying him on tea, which we did - hence he became Tetley.
This often gets shortened to Tet - he also gets called Tetley Richardson (yes, he became one of the family and got our surname!), others are "Sh*t for brains" and (sorry about this) but he also gets called "Sh*g nasty" when he becomes amorous with his soft toys! :o :D

Funny you should mention the surname part- the other year when my cat was ran over he was staying in the vets- when I went to pick him up there was a sticky label on his cat box saying *Thai Richardson*:D :D :D One of my friends who borrowed the cat box after that was in stitches thinking I'd cracked up:D
