If this is going to happen (threads here finding their way onto fb) then I'm off here.   I do not contribute to places like fb or twitter, for good reason!!

I too thought a red star indicated a 'thread of special interest' :red:

I could see why a number will think like u mamabas. I do use fb but they are closed or secret speculist groups and not public ones. It is part of the t and c in most groups that things arnt taken from the group without permission . Of course people  can and do break rule on occasion but generally it is less likely .also anyone found doing it is booted in the main

Need to check but In the case of cd I don't think the op  name is included in the thread just the question they asked in cd .the admin choose which answers they will relay to cd
.it doesn't however allow.the right of reply unless you are a fb member
. I still can't see how this doesn't break some sort of data protection unless the lack of real name on fb allows that .

In a number of cases, there is a clickable link from the posting on FB to the Champdogs forum (I don't do FB, but Google showed me the CD page on FB).

I don't post here often (and seldom post anywhere) but am like others not comfortable with the "leak" to FB.

> On here there are very few people who know who I am in the big wide world but I could be easily identified on fb so I now rarely post on here due to that.

I had a look and fb posts are simple copy and paste of the forum posts. I.e. they don't link to your fb profile or anything - how can you be easily identified? The fb posts simply say so and so is being discussed on champdogs forum, which IS public and anyone can see everything you post here, whether or not it was posted on fb.

Sadly, whether you like it or not - social media is here to stay. You may not like it or agree with it, but it is an evil necessary. Many forums across the internet (on every topic available!) have 'died' since FB and others came to a fore. Many others like Champdogs are hanging on by the skin of their teeth. It was not so long ago that people were moaning that the forum is very quiet, primarily because everyone is using social media! Measures have to be taken to increase 'traffic' to the forum and FB is one of those measures. If we don't embrace social media, then our forum too will go to the wall along with so many others and I am pretty sure that is not what members want.

At the end of the day, this IS a public forum and everyone (all over the world) can come here looking for advice and help. From time to time (and no, it is not every day or every post) we will highlight posts from the forum. Posts that we think deserve to reach a broader audience and in turn, offer more help and advice back to the poster whom started the forum post. Up to now, most reply posts on FB have been 'sensible' and helpful. This time, some of the posts were a bit OTT and although we loath removing posts, it is something we have done this time. If need be we will moderate FB in the future but hopefully, it will not be necessary. FB is an evil necessary at this time. Forums still have a place but ignoring the likes of FB etc will not keep our forum active. All posts on this forum are freely available to everyone, everywhere. If you do not want your posts read then there is only one way to stop it - don't post. If you do not post, then the forum will die. Your choice ..

There have been some excellent replies to this topic and I am sure that everyone is much wiser about what can and can not be done in this situation now. So thank you to those whom offered help and advice.
