> I specified that a short smooth coat was essential and it thinks I ought to have a field spaniel!

How strange, this is the only bred matching 'thingy' that gave me the breeds I actually liked, in fact I've actually considered owning the top 5 breeds it gave me, perhaps subconsciously you don't really want a dalmatian after all :D :D :D

Aussie came out as no 2 for me - with American Water Spaniel as no 1 (never heard of them). It is definitely more accurate than others.

I actually got Malinois on this one but only as number 8. First was Australian Shepherd which I would not want -too long a coat for a start!

I tried my best and got a Portuguese Water Dog but no mention of my Spanish Water Dogs! Asked for medium corded coat and was offered Dalmatian! :(
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 16.02.14 14:01 UTC
Ooh, I got Cavalier as no 5 on that. :-)

I got Chihuahua or pom for toy breed that's fine as I have a mix of both and would happily have one or the other again and may well do :)
. For medium to large I got Irish water spaniel lovely dogs and do admire them but hadn't considered them. Flat coat which I do have came way down the list with 50% and gsd didn't get a look in, which I also have. However it was far better than any other selector I have tried

I got goldens at no 2 (97%) have lived 38 years with this breed!   Flatcoats at no 15 (83%) have lived with this breed for 15
years, this didn't surprise  me  as they are very different in a lot of ways.

Interestingly, it gave as no 1 Collie (Rough, I assume it meant rough as this was the pic that came up) I had two in my younger days and love the breed.

That one was even worse than the kc one for me and I answered skew the results, no map Spitz in their top 200 recommendations, american eski was 8th.
I find I interesting it considers a dog weighing 24lbs miniature, maps weight around that mark andi would say are medium size.

Well I don't know what I am doing wrong. they reccomend a Xoloitzcuintli for me. and my breed is coming up 65th Perhaps I had better rehome all my dogs :(
- By bestdogs Date 16.02.14 18:54 UTC
I had to look that up! If could only have that breed, I think I would give up dogs! I am sure they suit some people but not for me, I love hairy monsters! :)

I think partly why it can be so far out, is the button you press for importance of each attribute. We are obviously all better at knowing which breed we need than any artificial selector  :)

LOL - yuck - not my type either. It looks as though it's forgotten to get dressed :)

What about the coated variety then? ;-) At least they look like a normal dog!

- By furriefriends Date 17.02.14 10:03 UTC
was that really on there  RED !!!!  as for the Xoloitzcuintli I met some at discover dogs one of I think only a couple of breeders in this country. I actually liked them which given I like Chinese crested and sphinx cats isn't surprising. That been said all my dogs are long haired and furry

Thank you Gwen :)

Yes -really- apparently  the Labradoodle is the breed(?) for me - maybe this is where I've been going wrong all these years. Still getting over the shock - too traumatised to have another go :)
- By Roxylola [gb] Date 17.02.14 12:30 UTC
Well they were close for Springers - 5th.  Pointers were first but it seems they have a different idea of medium to mine!  And beagles were 75th but they class them as small and also lowest intelligence (my guess is that whoever categorised them couldn't train them)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 17.02.14 12:59 UTC
By tweaking answers and ignoring some questions I've managed to get dalmatians up to #27. Apparently I'd be much better off with a Treeing Walker Coonhound or a Plott!
