Medical reasons is one of the reasons I was trying to find out if she was x poodle or not so if she gets medical conditions that might be breed related at any point then I would be able to give the vet a better idea

Afraid that is one of the problems with mongrel not only do you not know the breeds involved you most certainly do not know the pedigree not even for one generation never mind 5 plus. It is possible there are half a dozen breeds involved and you would need to know the generations back a fair way for it to be of use with health problems, your vet will be able to treat them any health problems she may have and the fact that you do not know if it is genetic or just one of those things would not help. Only thing is if she may have sight hound in her then you need care with GA.

Health is not really breed related, some breeds are prone to some problems and where possible are avoided by testing and careful breeding.

thats too too bad then if they can still treat it all no matter what she might be prone too,
i was trying to find out if the dad was a poodle or not never even thought about 5 gen's back how stupid was that lol, she could be x with lots on the dads side the mum is fine there pedigree/pure bred collies all the way back

Well if you know for certain what the dam was and if she was tested for the problems advised for the collies then at least you know you are not doubling up any possible problem, one thing if you know or think there is collie involved you have to be careful with some insecticide treatment so make sure your vet knows that there is collie in your bitch. To be honest I can see no reason to think there may be poodle in her, and when you think about it there are not many poodles running loose to make this likely but it is possible, much more likely really that the sire was a lurcher or indeed a crossbreed or mongrel himself.

someone did say that before there there isnt a chance of alot of poodles running free, that was just what the people thought they saw leaving the garden so i was tyring to think of the closest lurcher or terrier type that they may have confused with a poodle, but i also dont know if they ment a standard poodle or a smaller kind but like you said too he might be a mongrel so that means she would be x with even more,

i dont know if they mum was tested as i never met the people who owened her, i got her at 16 weeks from someone who bought the dog from her neighbour, they owned the mum and said they were all pure breds on her side but the sire was just a guess as they only seen it leaving the garden a few times but normaly later in evening when it was getting a little darker outside

To be honest Aidan I would forget wondering what is behind your dog, if the bitch was not tested you really know nothing about the health status of your bitch so I would just go with treating anything that she suffers from, hopefully she will be healthy all her life. There are a good number of breeds that look a bit like a poodle to say nothing of the huge number of poodle crosses about and it could be there were several dogs that got to her so you would not know who the father was even if you knew about one of them.

Untrimmed bedlington?  Could be some working types around your way.

There are a fair few curly coated breeds and therefore cross breeds that could be confused by the GP with a poodle, like the Spanish Water dog and other water dogs of that type although I would be surprised if they were wandering around loose.

Your best bet is to look up all the health issues that Border Collies can get, and assume the mum wasn't tested. Some issues are passed on in a random way (epilepsy for instance) while others are recessive genes, meaning for your dog to suffer from them, her sire (whatever breed he was) must have carried them as well. So by knowing what issues *can* affect BCs then if her father (whatever breed) carried the same genes, you have a risk - if not then it's unlikely. Eye issues are likely to be the main thing, such as PRA and cataracts, since so many other breeds share these same problems.

But you may be perfectly lucky and she turns out to be very healthy, only suffering ailments in her old age that any breeds can get..... such as cancer, age-related loss of eyesight, or age-related heart or circulatory issues. We all have to die of something! ;)

I've seen doodles with that coat before so she could be poodle X, but saying that I reckon terrier too :-)
