
Feeling relieved and happy at having liberated the souls of the dogs, Aileen made her way back to the park gates to go home, but as she approached the gate Aileen started to feel very strange. She looked round for her dogs and they too were behaving oddly, looking tense and unhappy. She saw a woman bringing her little terrier into the park and let it off its lead. It ran towards them happily, then stopped; the hackles rose on its back, its tail went down and it returned to its owner, who approached them. "Hello dogs" she said, completely ignoring Aileen."What are you doing here on your own?" Aileen was furious. How dare the woman ignore her like this! But no matter what she said the woman took no notice of her, then walked away with her relieved little dog scampering ahead. Aileen called her dogs and turned back towards the gate, but it seemed to be jammed and she couldn't open it. Then, to her growing horror, she saw, hanging where the collars had been, a necklace just like hers. The price for freeing the souls of the dogs had been the exchange of her own ....
