I cannot believe I had missed it but the vet thinks it has flared up fast and with Pepsi already being wonky on her legs particularly that one the automatic assumption is that something has made her knee worse. With that leg  out of action alltogether she put all the strain through the other and it could not cope so her back legs gave up. Put together with a dodgy front leg and you can see why I was so very worried and thought her days had come to an end. If something ever did happen like the cruciate going competly she would not cope., she needs all 4 legs working even if not 100%.
Teaches us to look for the unexpected...I could not see the wood for trees. I suppose if she was fit I would have looked at her from toes to hips but I convinced myself it was the knee and foolishly looked no further.
A lesson learned. I just hope and pray that the toe IS the problem, we should see an improvement within 48 hrs.
Off to administer a salt bath now !!

Be fair to yourself Merlot, it is natural to think the worse, I suppose part of our defence system. I too thought it may be cruciate suppose that if you have had it happen before you think it has happened again, another reason I suppose to always suggest someone sees a vet even if they do think we can diagnose on line bit of a joke really most of us can't diagnose unexpected problems in our own dogs.

Do hope your girl is a bit better this morning and will soon be able to manage to get to her feet. My lad comes to the end of his ABs and AIs to day and now I am worrying that the vet gave him a long enough course, the next couple of days will show if it was.

Everything crossed for you.

One of my dogs, a lot younger, had a thorn buried in her foot, no infection or anything but it took her off her leg completely, so I imagine a swollen toe would do pretty much the same. Fingers crossed thats the reason but I bet it is. I read the post with a definate sense of relief so heaven knows how you must be feeling.. Well done that vet!! :)
