Philippa,
We used to have a small cottage on a farm for holidays (it had been my grandparents home) and I used to go with a pitcher to get fresh milk from the farm. I remember watching the farmer sitting on a stool milking the cows into a metal bucket (no milking machines) and he used to point one of their teats at me and skoosh me and it was warm. :D :D :D
He used to just fill my pitcher straight from the bucket and I'd take it down the road but I wouldn't drink it because I only liked the milk we got delivered at home. I never wondered how I was still drinking the milk from home even though we'd been at the cottage for weeks. :)Years later of course I found out mum used to fill the glass milk bottle from the pitcher and pretend it was the milkman's milk :D :D

Hi dot, your post reminded me of my all time favourite programme which was "The Good Life" At the time it was on originally ( its still on Sky now) I would have done ANYTHING (legal) to have lived like that. As I am adopted, I dont know much about my background, but I loved the idea so much, Im sure there must be farming in there somewhere;)
I bet you had such a happy childhood in that cottage
- By dudleyl [gb] Date 22.09.02 20:41 UTC
Quatermass - it used to petrify me.
Day of the Trifids - a film about giant plants.
The first x-rated film I ever saw - The Gorgon.
Take Your Pick
In Town Tonight
Five o clock Club
Have we had Rag, Tag and Bobtail
All time favourite has to be The Woodentops. Ohhh Spotty Dog, probably responsible for my life long love of dogs

Phillipa I am 1000percent certain it was not JBJ.
I am not 100percent certain it was Reday STeady Go though <G>
Who remembers Belle and Sebastian?
Does anyone remember a kids series based in the Channel Isles during the occupation which had a clown character as one of the central roles? It really annoys Richard that he cannot remember the name and I (of course) am too young to remember <VBG>
- By dot [gb] Date 22.09.02 23:32 UTC
Philippa,
I had a great time on the farm. I loved it. We used to go for weekends and holidays. My grandparents had worked on the farm and when they died the farmer rented it to us for about £24 a year (late 60's/70's). Used to get up at 5.30am, no bother, just to help out. Used to bottle feed the orphan lambs, hand feed and PET bullocks/cows (always loved them ever since :)). Dare I say it - hunt rabbits. Even got to drive tractors at 13!! We had no phone,tv,fridge, washing machine, heating. Just a coal fire. Plenty mice. (Was scared sleeping upstairs at night. It was a dark room and you could hear noises. I always thought there was ghosts so I'd hide under the blankets :) (no duvets - old sheets, blankets and quilt :))
Oh, I would love to live there nowadays but with a few home comforts. Ah, nostalgia :) :)
Dot

P.S. Funny, I'm adopted too :)
- By philippa [gb] Date 23.09.02 06:40 UTC
Dot, that sounds so lovely. What a wonderful way to spend childhood. What a coincidnece you being adopted too. To make it even stranger , my other half, Steve is also adopted :D

- By Kash [gb] Date 23.09.02 11:40 UTC
I am too- although not in the same way as you lot- it is my birth Mum just not my Dad but because she'd already married him by the time he was legally adopting me- my surname was McCallum and theirs Richardson- they both had to adopt me by law:rolleyes: This is quite funny really since I think it's quite a lot on here to say how uncommon it is:)

- By Trevor [gb] Date 23.09.02 15:19 UTC
Hi Stacey
Snap!
My mum had already married my step-father so both had to adopt me. I was nearly 6 and I remember going to court and everything. :)
Nicky
- By Kash [gb] Date 24.09.02 08:06 UTC
Nicky- I find it even more of a coincidence then that you have exactly the same circumstances as me- sorry can't think how else to put it:) It seems quite a few of us are adopted to be in one place- like I said I always think of it as pretty uncommon;)
