Snow dogs, Firehouse dog, Greyfriars Bobby are the favourites even the dog enjoys.
- By tigran [gb] Date 01.11.10 19:52 UTC
Don't think anyone else has mentioned it. But my fav film is "The Accidental Tourist" starring William Hurt with Geena Davis playing a dog trainer. The clincher for me is that the dog in question is a Cardigan Corgi, not a very well behaved one.!
Anyone else seen it.?

> Same applies to the James Herriot books

Tadsy mentioning that brings back memories of years ago.  Taking Herriot to bed and crying alone!

if birds count then _ kes, not only my favourite animal film but in my top 5 films of all time.although it could be argued it is not really an animal film but a film more about class and adolescence

>> Taking Herriot to bed and crying alone

My problem was the crying on a packed tube! Particularly the one with Amber the retriever that had Mange, he just couldn't get on top of it and in the end she was put to sleep! I know it's only a book, but I get upset thinking of it now!

There were also many laugh out loud moments, Clancey the wolfhound was a real favourite.

I really must visit amazon and re-order these books, I recently bought the entire Gerald Durrell back catalogue because I remembered reading Three singles to Adventure as a child and thoroughly enjoying it.

Does anyone remember Digby? The dog that grew to huge proportions after drinking a bowl of milk laced with chemicals!
- By Liz_R [gb] Date 02.11.10 17:00 UTC
Has anyone seen Milo and Otis? The story of a pug and a cat who get lost and their journey home. Its acted by a real pug and a real cat and I think narrated by Dudley Moore. I had it on video, but we don't have a video machine anymore so I will have to see if I can get it on DVD.

LOVE Gerald Durrell's books, re-read them often!
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 03.11.10 12:33 UTC
You should go look at my tribute video for Henry, I always cry at Bright Eyes and he had the most beautiful eyes, so I used it as part of the soundtrack!

Love most of the films mentioned, also Good Boy!

>Watership down very sad film brighteyes the sound track makes me cry, also born free.

I was disappointed with some of the newer ones, but Cuthbert in "three singles to adventure" makes me LOL everytime - regardless of where I am!

Handy for some Who wants to be a millionaire questions as well. My OH often looks at me as if to say "how the hell do you know that". There was a question about a paradoxical frog, that I picked up from Gerald Durrell.

Yes I also saw this when I was a girl and I have loved Otters ever since.

This however was slightly tainted this weekend when during one of our frequent visits to the Cotswold Wildlife Prk.

The sun was out and the otters were loving the weather so much they decided to undertake in full view of the public a very vocal and well played out mating session ;eek: Lots of wide eyed and opened mouthed children (including my 7 year old ) ::P Lots of embarrassed parents moving their children on quickly to the next enclosure ! :p

- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 04.11.10 20:44 UTC
Watership down is my fav, use to watch it every weekend as a kid, also like the plage dogs, based on the book but made by the same people as Watership down.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 05.11.10 16:36 UTC
I never knew there was a film of the Plague Dogs, bet that's a bit difficult to watch, I love the book but it's quite an emotional read.
- By RootyTooty [gb] Date 07.11.10 19:27 UTC
One of my favourites has to be Best In Show.

- By zarah Date 07.11.10 20:44 UTC
Yes, love it :-D The (human) acting is terrible though! Apparently there are a few sequels but haven't seen those.
- By STARRYEYES Date 07.11.10 23:41 UTC
this may sound ridiculous as an avid lover of animals..I rarely  watch films with animals in esp: when they have a sad part even when I know that it wil be ok in the end I cant watch...silly or what!
- By andyfoster10 [gb] Date 08.11.10 16:13 UTC
