Glad to hear Betty is improving Lucy
- By LJS Date 08.07.10 20:39 UTC
Unfortunately it is not good news :-(

I have just had to rush her to the vets and she has been admitted with a severe infection. She had a temp of 40.5 and was in quite alot of distress. They have got her in and on IV antibiotics and fluids and have given her morphine. They are doing blood tests and will call me at about 11pm. I am so worried about her poor girl. She went downhill very quickly :-(

Oh dear, poor Betty, and poor you. :-( Fingers crossed there'll be good news.

Everyone is rooting for you both. She is on IV antibiotics so they are getting all the good stuff into her quickly. Huge hugs,. Am off to a show for weekend but will check for update before I leave and hope to hear improvement.

Will be thinking of you today.
- By Cava14Una Date 09.07.10 07:39 UTC
So sorry to see she's had a relapse white light for better news today!!
- By LJS Date 09.07.10 08:04 UTC
I popped in to see how she was this morning and still not out of the woods as her temperature is still very high. I am waiting to speak to my vet as the hospital will discuss what they think should be the next steps as they will see if they can transfer her to my vets if they feel she is well enough. I would rather her be there as I think she will be more closely monitored.

At least she is showing signs of improvement which is good :-)
- By STARRYEYES Date 09.07.10 09:15 UTC
sending white light her way ...positive thoughts.
- By Whistler [gb] Date 09.07.10 09:40 UTC
Oh good I found Whistler was really bad after his op and collapsed twice I was frantic, even telling the vet not to let him die!!! If you knew me you would know Im quite a positive person, but not where poorly dogs are concerned. I did have a little wish Betty would be ok, thats my nearest to praying I assure you.

Whistler did not get on well with his pain medication and we had to go without in the end. Jake always reacts better (BC) and its his breed that has problems not the spaniels. Here's hoping for a sunny day, lots of wags and a restful weekend for Betty and you.

Hope she starts to pull through soon. After Marleys first blockage his temp was soaring and the infection started leaking from his wound, never had such a fright. Hope she is as strong a fighter and gets back to full health soon.
Give her a (gentle) hug from us.
- By LJS Date 10.07.10 06:39 UTC
She is home but I am not happy with her yet. When I picked her up she had been lying in diarrhea and the wound had been  ' dripping down her leg' . They had wiped her over but she stank. I gave her a 'bed bath' but it hasn't really had any effect.

She is very unsettled and is panting still so still think she has a temperature although yesterday afternoon it was ok.

She keeps getting the lampshade off so I am constantly putting it back on so need some help on how to get it more secure . Any ideas as I am loosing the battle so need something that will stay on. I remember somebody telling me about a soft collar that is less uncomfortable for the dog and so they are less likely to try and get it off ?

We are seeing Stuart at 11am as she has to have the Ab's injected instead of orally so will see what he says. I am sure she is fine just really unsettled by the whole weeks events.

I am shattered as it has been a busy week at work (new job and start date of the project I am running has been bought forward by 4 weeks ) so dealing with all of this has been quite challenging to say the least ! In 23 years of owning dogs I have never had any great illness or injury to deal with and this has really opened my eyes up to how upsetting it can be.

Pleased to hear that she is home, there is a 'comfycol' and 'comfycon' link below, scroll down the page and they are near the bottom.

I have not used them so cannot say whether they work or not, but may be worth trying.   Hope all goes well with Betty.
- By Justine [gb] Date 10.07.10 07:03 UTC
LJS would one of these be better for Betty?

I hope she starts to improve quickly.  Everything crossed here for her too xxx

Glad she's home Lucy and under the care of your own vet again. I've used the comfy collar, it was fine for body wounds, so should be ok for Betty. Both Gem and Tchi didn't mind wearing it one bit, neither of them tolerated the lampshade type, the only downside to the comfy collar is dogs can still reach their paws and toes so no use for wounds there.
- By LJS Date 10.07.10 09:36 UTC
Thanks Justine I think out of the two the one you have found it just the job !

Well she has been seen by the vets and he is not happy with her wound and she also still has a high temperature.

She has had two more lets of AB's and also an injection of metacam.

The wound has been cleaned up and the thick puss coming out of it was not pleasant at all !

I am going to give her some food now and see if she settles donw and has a sleep as she needs to get some rest as she has not stopped fretting poor girl.
- By Annabella [gb] Date 10.07.10 11:07 UTC
What a awful time for you and of course Betty, fingers crossed she gets over this next hurdle and starts to get better, dogs do pant Lis when they are in Pain and hope she has settled down after her treatment today, one of my labs had an op and she was in discomfort for a few days panting ect.thinking of you all.
