25 years ago I had a lovely couple come to collect their puppy, had gotten to know one another quite well by that point and I was delighted with the new owners.
On the day I asked casually " what are you going to call him" ( 'him' being a chunky manly little boxer boy)
" Ashley" they said
" You're not calling a male boxer puppy Ashley" says I. " Sorry he's not for sale" :-)

You should have seen their faces :-)

Yes they had him and they called him 'Benson'  - he lived to 14 and his owners became two of my closest friends.

What's wrong with Ashley? It's a unisex name, and certainly more original than Benson!

The breed of one of my dogs knew he was being called Henry and successfully applied for Hooray Henry, which is a great name! :-)

I was asked by the breeder what my puppy's name would be because she wanted to incorporate it in the KC name. So Jesse became the KC name Jesse James, which I love.

Names are so personal aren't they.  One man's Lesley is another man's Thomas...

Baby names are worse - I always smile and nod, however far removed from my own preferences

...at least your dog is never going to question your choices later :)
