Hi

Was just wondering , does it have to be boxes or could we put the items in a large jiffy bag? As long as it was still under 2kg.
- By CALI2 [gb] Date 31.07.09 15:21 UTC
Jiffy bags are fine as I have used them several times to send things to hubby.

Only just seen this thread - wondered where you were Jackson, and hope the dogs are OK - I'll gladly send some boxes, especially as my Dad was in the RGJ and my brother in the Royal Anglians, so when you get a moment please PM me the details.

iv got my things together not sure what it weighs tho so am boxing it up at po, iv got 12 boxes lol so will try to send one a week,
any ideas on some other stuff to send i still feel it a bit boring what would really make they day?

im enjoying the thought that people will open this up and feel happy and its all siuch simple things to  its realy nice to be helping out :-)

I think that what would make their day is knowing people at home they don't know personaly - but who they are in effect risking thier own lives to protect - care about them. That people are proud of them and care enough to send something anything.

Thought is what counts I would say not the contents although if it were me a packet of Rolo's would help :)

I'm still looking for ideas.  Come on, what's everyone thinking about / got for sending?

So far I've got:

Pringles
Butter Biscuits
Shower Gel
Toothpaste
Deodorant

And going to buy a car or some other magazine.

What's everyone else sending?

Simone :)

I've PM'd you Jackson, this is the first time I've heard of being able to send parcels to those brave guys, but I can't believe the supermarkets aren't sending stuff to them, or are they and we don't hear about it?
- By sugar [gb] Date 04.08.09 18:32 UTC
Hi

Have sent off 2 boxes and have got 7 more to go ( mum's really got into this! ) but we were wondering which supermarkets to get the powdered squash from and whether things like the super noodles would be ok?
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 04.08.09 18:52 UTC
I have stuff ready to go too, but its too heavy so will need to split into two parcels I think!!
- By Schip Date 04.08.09 21:36 UTC
I've sent 3 off today, have got 10 made up but couldn't carry more than 3 to the post office!  If you keep the parcel about 1800 gms before wrapping you shouldn't have a problem with it going overweight its amazing how much weight a bit of wrapping puts on them.

The powdered squashes etc can be found at Lidl or Aldi I think.

Thanks once again to everyone, this really is appreciated. I will try amd Pm everyone in the morning who hasn't yet had a PM from me.

I have just got back with my husband (who is home for two weeks leave) from the last funeral of the five men sadly kille don July 10th. An emotional and tiring day, not least as my son rang whilst we were at the wake in England (we currently live in Northern Ireland) to say one of our dogs was having a seizure. The first time she has had one. Will post about that in th ehealth section.

I cannot thank everyone enough, and I apologise for not replying this evening to pm's.
- By earl [fr] Date 07.08.09 11:19 UTC
I've sent my first one too and have the next one underway.

Make the most of your husband's two weeks leave and have fun. :)
- By STARRYEYES Date 08.08.09 09:52 UTC
just wondered what will happen to the parcels addressed to your hubby while he is home on leave if they are all addressed to him ?? is it worth sending now or when he has returned????
- By Schip Date 08.08.09 10:58 UTC
Don't worry Kirsties husband has made arrangements for their distribution if any arrive whilst he's in the UK.

These parcels can take 2 wks or more to reach their destination so chances are he'll be back by the time ours arrive.
- By STARRYEYES Date 08.08.09 12:07 UTC
nice one
- By STARRYEYES Date 10.08.09 19:56 UTC

- By jackson [gb] Date 21.08.09 13:09 UTC
Apologies for the delay in replying to this thread and all the pm's I have recieved. I've been busy what with my husband being home for two weeks, and we also had his two children staying, who didn't return home until after their dad went back.

I really, really cannot say enough how wonderful you all are being so supportive of our troops, and sending things out to them. It is so nice for me, as well as the other wives, and the families of the unmarried soldiers, as well as the soldiers themselves to know they have such public support.

I cannot believe how wonderful people are being, and how many parcels people are sending, it really is fantasic.

And yes, my husband made arrangements for the parcels to be given out whilst he was home, although I haven't been able to speak to him much yet to ascertain if any parcels have arrived yet, but I suspect they have, as he said he had letter from me when he got back to camp, so they must have had a mail drop. Parcels do tend to take about 2 weeks to get to Afghanistan, and can then take up to two weeks to get out to our men in the 'FOB' (forward operating base) depending on how safe it is for them to fly helicopters out there.

I also discussed this with my husband whilst he was on leave, and he said that if anyone wants to continue sending parcels once our battalion come home, he will get the adress for the company from the next battalion that will be where he is, so people can continue sending.

Once again, I really cannot thank people enough on behalf of our men, and from myself.
- By Whistler [gb] Date 21.08.09 14:49 UTC
Can you pm me and I'll get some stuff as well.
- By jackson [gb] Date 22.08.09 22:32 UTC
Thanks once again everyone.

I spoke to my husband this evening and he said that one of the men took a photo of all the parcels as they arrived, all piled up, so they must have received quite a few already.  He is going to try and email me the photo so I can post a link to it. :-)

He said the lads all said it was great, and were really thrilled to have things coming in. He said they alls hared the parcels out amongst themselves, and anyone who included a return address will get a thankyou letter sent.

Thankyou all SO very much. :-)

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share with you that I got a lovely letter from one of the guys in the battalion thanking me for sending a parcel.  It was so lovely of him to take the time to write and I was very touched, as they have a tough enough time out there without having to spend any free time writing letters to people they don't know.

This week's job is to get another parcel on its way.  :)
- By Schip Date 09.10.09 21:48 UTC
Sorry to say Earl love another parcel won't get there in time now as they're due back this mth, they can take upto 6 wks to arrive.  They do have down time when not patroling which is when they can write to family, friends, sort out kit etc having the parcels gives them someone else to write to by way of a thank you.

Glad you got a reply, I just sent email address so maybe get a thank you when they're back in Ireland.
- By earl [gb] Date 10.10.09 12:35 UTC
He gave me the the details of who'll be taking over when they leave, so I will send it to him.
- By Julie 66 [gb] Date 14.11.09 11:21 UTC
