You don't need an affix to breed and I often see dogs in catalogues that have no affix except the owners at the end, which happends to be the affix on one of the parents!

also am i right in thinking even when op reg them her breeder can pay and have her affix but on the pups?? ive just looked at kc sight and thats how i read it ! x

As far as I'm aware (it's been nearly a decade since I last registered a litter, and the rules could have changed many times since then!) if someone bred both dog and bitch, then the puppies may be registered under the same affix, even if the affix holder isn't the registered owner of either.

If the breeder of the bitch (in this case) didn't also breed the dog, then the litter can't be registered under her affix, unless Qwerty agrees to temporarily transfer the ownership of the bitch back to her breeder ... but I don't think that's something that in the pipeline.

A loan of bitch agreement could be registered with te KC(these usually end the day after the puppies are born allowing the breeder of the bitch in this case to register herself as the breeder of the litter & use her affix

I didn't say she needed an affix to breed, I was just curious as to what affix the litter will have if she hasn't got one because I assume they will be registered with something.

Either the KC will use their annual affix or, if the chosen names are satisfactory (more than a single word, etc) the pups won't need an affix. A puppy could be registered as "Paper Moon" or something like that without needing an affix.

Hi Qwerty

I hope your chat with your girl's breeder went well and that you've managed to sort things out :)

And you've got time to sort out an affix - if you want to, that is.

You actually repled to my post ;-)

Hi, I went to visit my breeder today and have come to an agreement. We will be having a contract, to safeguard us both. Vets fees will be 50:50 between us, we have agreed a payment that she will pay me(i suppose a stud fee!)as my bitch will not be able to work during pregnancy, she will get first pick of the litter, and i will get second choice, and if she wants a second then she can have pick after me, which she will pay for. And to top it off I get the undivided attention from a woman with decades of experience!
The contract will bind us in to all above terms and some other minors. The way I see it as a breeder that has down sized her lines(if that makes sense!) and been extremely unfortunate unable to continue them with her own bitch, she has worked for years with her lines and i am just pleased to be able to allow her to continue.

ETA. I will be applying for my own affix and they will be registered under that (Just me creating a little history lol) as she is not the breeder of my male. Is it a long process? the mating is not planned until december/january.

We applied for our affix the MON after our bitch won her first RCC.  We had been playing with names, were almost there, then *BAM*, due to the RCC we had 30 days to append our affix.
The greatest fear we had was not getting the affix granted in time.  But in the end, the KC told me to send in the paperwork to append and it would be on hold until an agreed affix was granted.

Anyway, we sent in the paperwork the beginning of MAY, and had notification it was granted (our first choice) before the end of  MAY.  It was printed in the JUL issue of the magazine for anyone to object to, and six weeks after that, if no objections occurred, we could use it with confidence.  That's to say order stationary, etc.  She was entered in shows with it, but with NAF after the name.
The KC sent out her new registration with the affix appended straight away, and we had that along with the affix registration before the end of MAY, as well.

You can send in six name selections at a time, listed in order of preference.
We sent in four.  We had a fairly good idea ours would be granted since we did research to see if the name was similar to anything in our breed.  Also, since it was a foreign word, an unusual foreign word, we had almost no doubt it would be granted.
