This is a breeder not a shop.  Rearing a litter is a very busy time especially when done properly.  I would image puppies farmers are far more accomodating about speaking to "customers".

> if they want to
> breed away from the breed standard let them do so but register pups on activity register rather than breed register OH NO ! they wont do that
> it might make it harder to sell pups without "full" K.C. registration or get full price for them.

As I said earlier the stated aims of the scheme are to provide access for buyers to find "healthy, well-adjusted puppies".  This is not about breeding for the show ring.  Adherance to the breed standards are not a requirement and have not been for decades for working bred dogs for instance.  The price that a breeder charges has never been dictated by the KC either and it surely up to the individual what they wish to pay.

> a complete waste of time/money

Never a waste as the score are then available for the prospective buyer to consider.

>It is surely the results of medical testing relevant to this countries health testing schemes that we have to consider, not what they do/accept in some other countries.

In the old insular days when UK dogs were isolated by 6 months quarantine that would be a understandable attitude. However one result of the Pet Passport scheme is the greatly increased access to 'foreign' bloodlines, so an awareness and understanding of the scoring and health testing methods of other countries has become of much higher importance.

YES FOREIGN TESTS CAN BE INDICATIVE OF CERTAIN ANIMALS IN A PEDIGREE MEDICAL STATUS,
BUT IT IS THE TESTS AS APPLIED IN THIS COUNTRY THAT APPLY TO BRITISH BRED DOGS/PUPS
E.G. SAYING THAT A TEST RESULT IS ACCEPTABLE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY DOES NOT MEAN IT IS
ACCEPTABLE IN THIS COUNTRY, I UNDERSTAND SOME OF THESE TESTS MAY BE BETTER AND SOME
NOT AS GOOD AS THE BRITISH EQUIVELANT, BUT WE HAVE TO WORK WITHIN THE PARAMETERS OF
OUR OWN OFFICIAL AND RECOGNISED FOREIGN SCHEMES. NOT SAY  THAT THEY ALLOW A POORER
RESULT FOR A CONDITION TO BE ACCEPTABLE IN COUNTRY X, SO ITS ALLRIGHT TO BREED FROM A
SIMILAR SCORING ANIMAL IN THIS COUNTRY.
MY POST WAS IN REFERENCE TO DOGS TESTED IN THIS COUNTRY AND USED FOR BREEDING IN THIS COUNTRY

Sorry Isabel, perhaps we have different views on what constitutes common courtesy
when I am rearing a litter if some one phones I either speak to them then or explain
that I am in the middle of something and cant speak at moment and then "I phone them back"
as soon as finished or at a time of there choosing.
As I think my post indicated it was the way of speaking "phone me after 8 p.m." in a very curt
and abrupt manner, followed by hanging up that I consider an unacceptable way to treat a
potential customer/enquirer. I accept that the foregoing was not fully covered in my earlier post
for reasons of brevity.

Who knows what she was dealing with at that moment, at least she offered you a more convenient time.

It is a fact that the hereditary basis of HD is bilateral therefore without the need for medical back up it is quite obvious that s dog scoring very well on one hip and hugely different with the other is not hereditary poor in hips, especially when there is good pedigree evidence to suggest good hip status in the lines.

Injury can occur at any time from birth a pup can be laid on, injured in play, enough to alter the score but not enough to cause a need to visit the vet.

NOT OFFERED! TOLD ABRUPTLY, CONVENIENT ? FOR WHO ? THIS WAS APROX. MID-MORNING WHEN I PHONED
CAN THINK OF VERY FEW REASONS FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO TALK THAT WOULD TAKE UP THAT MUCH TIME,
THIS WAS A MOBILE PHONE, SO BEING AWAY FROM HOME WOULDNT CAUSE ANY PROBLEM.
BUT IF YOU FEEL ITS AN ACCEPTABLE PRACTICE, SO BE IT, THOUGH I BEG TO DIFFER, EACH TO THERE OWN
I SUPPOSE.

If a mobile phone then many good reasons not to be free to talk, such as driving walking dogs etc.

I don't know what kind of conversations you have had with breeders, but any I have had with potential puppy owners take ages :)

Must say this is why I love email as a lot of initial questions can be covered and then a chat arranged at a mutually convenient time.

look at time scale mid morning to 8-00 pm + I could walk a Great Dane into a Daschund in that time,
I suppose difficulty is from being able to put tone/attitude into perspective when writing about a conversation,
as it can be difficult to grasp unless you have heard it or had similar conversations with person in question.
I have had countless conversations with breeders and stud dog owners as well as potential puppy owners over the years,
in the main I have allways found the breeders/stud owners willing to talk or, at least briefly explain that there busy and "ask"
you to phone back at a more convenient time, at all times these calls have been corteous( I just hate bad manners I guess)
I allways try to take calls when they come in and if unable to briefly explain to the caller why I cant talk at moment and then
phone them back A.S.A.P. at this time I  have a litter of seven 5-1/2 week old pups in the house as well as 3 adults to feed/exercise
as well as preparing for new kitchen and bathroom to be fitted next month, and have allways given callers the time "they" require
as to driving ,hands free kits cost nowt and if driving without one why answer phone in first place.

P.S. I think we may be straying from initial A.B.S. theme of this thread so will leave it as it stands as we are all entitled to our
personal views on a subject, I only got into this area as one of other posters asked if I had contacted the person in question
when I was talking about A.B.S. membership

No one has said that K.C. dictates prices charged by breeder(s) so please read posts fully before replying
this will save any confusion creeping into conversations
I also am rearing a litter at this time, but treat all callers courteously and try my best to "accomadate" them
when they call , am I a puppy farmer because I do so ?? I think not !! but if we follow the logic of your statement
I would have to be.

I have not suggested that nor should logic lead you to believe I have.
I would just say again, you do not know what was going on at the other end of the phone but even if it is just down to poor communication skills this does not reflect on whether their breeding practices are inadequate nor do I believe it is appropriate for this to be an area dictated by the Accredited breeder scheme.

no one suggested that communication skills or customer relations should be dictated by A.B.S. The reason we drifted on to this tack
from the original A.B.S. discussions was due to cocopop asking if I had contacted the breeder and my response to that question,
this was not a thread I was trying to raise as a discussion topic, simply an observation of my experience when I did try to contact breeder.
