I had the same thought Pedlee. Mine get potato about once a month mixed with fish or rabbit. They enjoy 'hash' night.

If I had the luxury of time on my side then yes I have no doubt I would, unfortunately I dont and I only use naturediet for my dogs breakfast, they have it in their kongs.  Otherwise they are on genesis complete.

> I know this may seem obvious, but rather than paying a small fortune for a tin of fish and potato manufactured in Germany (I assume), could you not just cook it yourself to the same proportions that are in the tin?

Pedlee good point, and you only get 6 cans at that price as well, still I ordered a pack just to try.

I find feeding ND a lot easier due to his allergies. I suppose I've been a bit lazy and have lack of confidence in giving him the correct nutrients but I will have to get out that mind set now. When he's better vet's going to send us to a nutritionist so I'm in hope I'll get it right.

Hi katt, I think we have been brainwashed for years now regarding "complete" and "balanced" nutrition. Just as we don't feed ourselves a completely balanced meal at every meal, neither do our canine friends need the same thing day in, day out, in order for it to be balanced, neither does it need to come in a packet/tin. Once you get your head around it, feeding a homemade diet is fairly simple and certainly a lot cheaper. I appreciate some people have little time to prepare their own food for their dogs but it really doesn't take much more time and you at least know what they are eating, which would certainly help with dogs with allergies.

So true Pedlee. I have read so many books on home cook and Raw/Barf diets they all say for a blanced diet you need to give all diffirent types of meats. I think I worry more as he can only eat one meat protein.
I do give him raw fish and he loves it, licking first having a good chew and he seems more contented, so for him I know it's the right route to go down. I will suss it out, got no choice now so maybe this is the kick up the behind I needed and it may benifit his health more.

First he needs to stop squirting vet taken poo and blood sample and has given more meds today, have told me to keep feeding him fish but minus the rice. Think I will give it just raw tonight as the cooked fish has not help stop the squirts.

I have 6 GSD's (3 are rescues) one suffers from hot ears, itchy skin, loose stools another has bouts of collitis. I have found a brand of food that suits them all - its lamb and Rice gluten free and only £12 for a 15k sack.from Chandlers a local store. Two of my dogs are working dogs and are as fit as anything fed on higher priced foods. In the winter I add tripe and also veg. Live yoghurt once a week. It is a minefield trying to find what suits them all - I am just praying this recipe does not change.

Its where all the best dog people live you know:)))
I use chandlers in Spilsby - also thier hide chews - packs of 50 are the cheapest around only £5.10p;)
I dont like to think I feed any of my dogs rubbish food - but cant justify paying 30-40 a sack - I go through a 15kl sack a week so its not an option. All my furkids have shiny coats and are fit and healthy (so long as I dont feed shapes/marrow biscuits/gravy bones) It seems the colours in these treats upsets a couple of them.
Two of them do WT's so are working dogs - I can see no difference in my dogs stamina/coats to a friends dog fed on  Burns

Know what you mean I have one on Beta since day 1 no problem and Mr finikey is on Natures Best £40 a sack. But the Beta eater manages 2.5 sacks to one of Whistlers so its about even's. Whistler hasn't finished a meal in about 5 days, but i bet tonight he cleans up the lot, I think he is as weather affected as me!! Jake eats for Britain in about 35 seconds. We then add fresh veg and fruit weekly plus yogurt every other day and they are all bright eyed and shiney coated.
Whistler will also eat blackberries off the bushes as we walk the fields when in season and both like apples, cabbage stalks, carrots, brussel sprouts ( they can have mine) and brocalli & cauliflower florets  so we buy extra and give them some as we get our tea ready. I dont give bread, cake, chockie but they have stolen it off the kids when they visit.
