So glad you've got Ed back finally!  If he was mine I would be keeping him in for at least 3 weeks to make sure he was totally OK and knew exactly where home was again.

I would definitely keep her in, for at least 2 weeks, that will be long enough for her to scent mark the house again and make it feel like hers again.  After that you will just have to use your best judgment.

My 2 cats used to be outdoor cats but now at 10 and 14 they are both content to live indoors and take it easy. They have plenty of toys and a huge cat scratcher tower.  My older cat made this decision for herself and I made the decision for the younger as he was often getting beat up by the local Toms.  They have both adjusted very well and are happy.

Hope your girl settles down for you.

Good that she's ok Like I said I would keep her in as she's been missing before she obviously knows where her home is even if she does like to"walk on the wild side"

Hi Donna, just been reading your posts about your cat.  My mum & dad have a cat called bollinger (bolly for short).  He used to go missing for a couple of weeks at a time and then he went missing for about 6 months, they thought he had been killed, but he came home one night, sat crying outside there bedroom window, my dad got up and brought him in but he was really really skinny, covered in fleas and had a big hole at the top of his leg, I think he came home because he knew how poorly he was and finding it very hard to kill his food.  My dad took him to the vets the next day, the vet said that it looked like he had been shot in the leg and part of the bone was shattered, but the injury was quite a few weeks old and the vet wanted to amputate it, but my dad wouldn't let him, he opted for months of antibiotics and house arrest.  It took about 6 months for his leg to heal, days and nights of the cat howling to get out, but my mum and dad stuck it out with him.  That was about 4 years ago now, his leg is absolutely fine and he comes in every night now to go to bed.

Related but probably not of much use to you; I had a pet cat when I was a little girl and would dress him in dolls cloths and push him around in a dolls pram.

One day we were bombed out along with the neighbours and moved to Manchester and onward to Birmingham finally returning to London when the houses had been repaired about 2 ½ years latter.

As we walked up the road we had previously lived in the first thing to greet us was my lovely Blackie, coat well knotted but fit and well. He spent 10 more years with us as a house cat.

Hi Donna,
I'm SO glad Ed is back! She must be a real survivor!!

As for the in/out thing, I would treat her like a new rescue cat ie keep indoors for two weeks (butter her paws if you like) then take her around her territory on a harness with a long lead.
Have you found out whose dog it was that attacked her?
