Congratulations!
What breed are they?

I've been following this thread & I so pleased for you & your new girl:-D. You will not have any "dominance"(doG how I hate that word)problems because of the good age gap between them.

It is similar to the situation in which I got Jessie except of course she wasn't surplus to requirements after being bred from, but needed a home where she would get training & outings etc that her breeder cannot sadly provide & yes I am getting a puppy(the same way bred)from her breeder.

I actually took 4 hours in which to officially make up my mind, but really it was made up as soon as I saw Jessie again & had the offer made for me to have her(which I couldn't at first believe.

Been following the thread too.. and pleased you have made your decision... sometimes its nice for a breeder to find the best forever home for her girl....

Personally I am in danger of being 'overdogged'... and have only ever homed one girl... but dont even consider it re-homing... she had settled quite well.. BUT. once she had sussed out the place.. she began attacking the others randomly... wonderful girl.. lovely nature, but just couldnt handle being 'in close quarters' with other dogs... so I used to take her everywhere with me... and while the other were put into kennels when I went to see my new grandson, she came with me.... she loved the baby and settle very well while we were staying, and my daughter suggested she live with them... and she did :D  other dogs visit (her MIL has 3 labs and a springer) with no problem, she is still shown, and because she is with family, and still in my name.. she is still my girl

however, I have a girl who is food aggressive, and I darent allow her to be with the others at any time, simply because in this house.. there COULD always be a peice of food around, and I wish I had the guts, or the heart to let her go... she gets left behind when we go to shows, and gets excluded on doggy outings etc...

Some breeders do whats best for them... but on the whole.. responsible breeders will do whats best for their girls... you have to see whole whole picture..

Well done on your girl, and enjoy your puppy :D

the other big advantage with this age gap is that it is about half a canine lifetime, so if you are always going to be a two dog family this will be roughly the same gap each time, a sensible senior and a young dog, then a sensible adult and and oldie then a senior and next pup.

Hopefully you won't be faced with loosing two dogs close together at any time.

I lost Mum and daughter only 2 1/2 months apart with an age gap under 3.

I have been following this thread and biting my tongue throughout. I can understand, to some degree, breeders re-homing a bitch if there is conflict between dogs in the house. BUT, to re-home a bitch because she has reached the end of her "useful", breeding life, is treating a dog like a commodity and not a living being. I'm sure this particular bitch will have a lovely life with her new owner, but can't help thinking she has been used for profit or the original breeders "show career" rather than "being one of the family".

UPDATE!!  :D

Well, they've both been with us for two weeks now.

Jessie (the dam) - is an absolute sweetie. She is the perfect family dog. She has fitted in so well we can't believe our luck, actually. Even DP says it is much easier than he thought it would be and that she is a darling and he isn't even that keen on dogs!!  She is great with the kids (they adore her), she is devoted to me (sickeningly so lol) and is just so easy to have around. She is loving her walks  (she'd never really been on any before, living as they did in the middle of nowhere with loads of land), is taking things like traffic in her stride after initially being a little nervous, and is generally a pleasure to own.

A rather nice bonus is that she is turning out to be VERY intelligent and easy to train.  I am using her as a guinea-pig to hone my clicker training skills for her daughter's (hopefully!)  obedience career.... her latest trick is to sit up and beg, which has taken her a week to perfect which I think, at the age of 7, is pretty good going :)

Boo (puppy) - is just gorgeous. Now 9 weeks old and has learned sit, flat, leave it, drop, speak  (although we've stopped that one for the time being - she was a little too keen on it LOL!!) and is as bright as a button.  She is toy mad which is brilliant, and her toilet training is going well.

All in all we are thrilled with both our new additions :D :D :D

To KateC,
Have read all this post and so happy it's worked out for you, Jessie and Boo.
This post has brought a tear to my eye.

I had a potential show girl, who did well as a puppy, but as she matured started becoming very subduded at home among alot of other dogs, stopped playing and started hating showing. I was shocked when someone who had been in my breed 30 years suggested I breed on from her, got her spayed and re-homed her.
After nearly 8 months mulling it over I did just that, she came into season and I bred from her. When I mentiond I was letting her go a friend of mine, who already new all the dogs, to my suprise said she wanted her - I was delighted.
"This is the funny thing", Now 12 months on she is so very happy, she has 3 young girls to play with, regular works, goes camping in the summer and fetches a ball. She get more attention than I could ever give her.

I am so happy for her, but I still miss her.

You sound lovely and I'm sure Jessie is lucky to have you :-)
Good Luck :-)

Not Boo's most flattering picture - she looks a bit like a mole LOL!

But you can see how thrilled my boys are with Jessie - she doesn't look that fussed about them but she was watching the telly at the time...

ETA  -  note how I chose my dogs to match my colour scheme  ;)  :)

Well that was a shock looking at the pics, for some reason with your first post I thought they were labs....lol...no idea how I came to that conclusion, anyway gorgeous dogs :-)
